So I just bought the Tier 7 Gneisenau this morning (I researched her as soon as I could with the XP from my Bayern, and was at a reduced price, I said why not xD) and then took her out for a spin. This happened...I definitely think she's going to be a keeper once I get her fully upgraded.

Congrats on the excellent maiden voyage! Today seems to be a good day for maiden voyages for battleships. Got an Arizona today, and got a 'Kraken Unleashed' with it.

On a related note, do you know how the Gneisenau compared to her sister ship? I recently saw some videos of the Scharnhorst doing some really great things, and since I missed my chance to buy her, I was wonder how the Gneisenau compared.

I have both and like them both, no favourite yet. Both keepers I expect.

WhiteMouse has a fine review of the Scharnhorst:

EDIT: And congrats to the Canuck from another Canuck. :)

If you like the Gneisenau you're going to love the Bismarck. 2 extra guns really helps with the dispersion issues (although does not completely eliminate them, Bismarck still gets derpy dispersion sometimes) and the secondaries paired with the best hydro acoustic in the game more than make up for the her lack of torpedoes. Not to say that if you like the Gneisenau that you shouldn't keep her but the Bismarck is easily one of the most entertaining ships I've ever played.

You had a far more auspicious start than I did. First game in my brand new, kitted battleship, and my game crashes. The first game and first win, wasted on a game where I got 4 xp.

I didn't do that great in my second game, partially because I was still learning the ropes, and partially because I was still annoyed at my computer for being so rubbish.

On the Gnes, she's a good, mobile ship, but I found myself wishing the guns reloaded a little bit faster to counter their poor dispersion, and the rudder shift time and turning radius and speed aren't great. The belt armour and straight line speed are excellent, and the secondary / AA / torpedo batteries are mighty useful.

That name man. It tickles me, take a +1 just because.

I too am pleasantly surprised by Gnes,

My damage/battle is probably going to be lower than with Colorado and her 16" guns but the Gnes is certainly more fun,  looking to swoop in and torp other BBs.

My current plan is fully upgrading the Gneisenau and using her to get the required damages for the ARP Nachi mission. Long-term I do want to keep her in my fleet in order to troll enemy BBs with my torps (had a match in her yesterday afternoon where I torped a Gnevny from 3 km away and only took 2 of his 6 torps in return xD) I did keep my Bayern in my fleet, and I'm planning to stop at the Bismarck.

One of my Bismarck battles on the test server...those glorious 10.6 km secondaries

very nice work, her dispersion can be a pain sometimes but overall she is a nice ship.

Gneisenau is a great ship when RNG is with you, she can tank tons of damage and deal a huge number of damage as well, I keep mine and will always keep her, I'm still surprise to see that some players still don't know that this ship got torps and goes close range to brawl :)

Personally, I much prefer the Scharnhorst over the Gneisenau.

The faster guns with a lesser punch are frustrating sometimes, but it suits my playstyle better.

I haven't rolled out Gneisenau yet, UT this weekend I'll probably get cracking on retraining her skipper then start grinding.

Gneis  isn't bad, but you do lack alpha dmg.  have to play patient game, with opportune charge.       I am glad to be done with the grind to bismarck. gneis is  still in my port, as is bayern..

LOL, awesome first game and well done.

Mine was a disaster. I was backing up a cap when I got an emergency phone call and had to run out of the house. Came back four hours later and just shook my head in disgust. Two people had messaged me accusing me of being a Bot......

I might be the minority then. That, or I forgot my sacrifice for RNGsus...

On the other hand, Scharnhorst? Damn that thing is a beast.

Every time I fire I'm disappointed at the number of shells and dispersion.  It seems like I never hit.   But when she does she pens very nicely.    As poor as the guns seem, she's performed remarkable well for me in the few games I've played.   Better damage then a typically get out of a bb. Plus those nice torps when a BB wants to rumble.
