Still on the fence with Prinz Eugen

Well as I write this post I have 1 day 23 hours and about 30 minutes to decided to buy it or not, I have read so many post for and against I cant count.

I am a collector or as some would put it a wallet warrior but so be it.

There are those who say don't its not worth it that the stats are not much different to Admiral Hipper that's true ( and I have that ship ) but the way I play (my stats say I'm a Below average player that's very true so the ship could be OP and unsinkable wont make much difference the way I play )there is no bonus with her for me.

They say its a clone of The Hipper just a different bow on her well that should be enough to dissuade me from buying it BUT.

So lets look at from a for and against argument

Pros

I like Kriegsmarine ships

I am working up the Axis ships lines ( can I say Axis )

Its The Prinz Eugen

I like to buy historical ships

Its The Prinz Eugen  ( said that twice now ) history demands I buy it

well the pros really don't have a strong case

 

Cons

I have a Hipper looks almost identical with similar stats

Really tempted to get Hipper's premium camo  cheaper does just about the same job

Prinz Eugen camo with the bonus 50% captain training on top of the other 50 % no big deal considering how I play

The alternative camo  3000 doubloon's for Just the extra 10% to dear ill pass

Prinz Eugen has no flash gimmick like a Heal module or any other thing

HMAS Perth coming soon ( British built Australian ship ) I'm a Aussie so its a must

HMS Belfast coming soon very interested in that ship

The Leningrad coming  soon same as above

The Prinz may cost $50 dollars US but for me its $65 AUS don't own a money tree

 

well looks like compelling argument not to buy her  add to that my six year old wants a Lego set for xmas costing around $130.00 AUS plus anything else she sees in the next few weeks I tend to be a softy when it comes to my daughter so this comes back to the don't own a money tree part.

Still with all the outcry about this ship what happens if in about 1 or 2 patches time that some sought of module like a Heal or Radar or even laser guided rockets or some such nonsense to appease the already disgruntled Prinz Eugen owners is added and chose not to buy her I will be kicking myself.

 

dam you War Gaming stop bringing out ships I like and cant afford.

I opted not to buy it. I had Hipper. Liked it, sold when I went past it, and may buy it again one of these days.

Why spend cash for something you can grind and does not really offer much uniqueness other than a name?

I'm a ship collector as well, but chose not to buy it.  I have Hipper and don't really need Eugen as a captain trainer since I have Scharnhorst already (which is so much more fun).

 

I don't think its really a big deal to pass on her, unless you really need a German cruiser captain trainer.  The camo is a nice bonus (and looks good), but not for the price they are asking.  I'd put that money towards your daughter's Lego set.

If you are australian you will be so hyped that you shall forget you wanted this overpriced Hipper, I mean it has nothing special to offer in comparison to her sister.

Just imagine that Perth comes to the game in a good bundle (a expensive one) and you lack the money.

 

In other hand, if you have lots of money to invest in a game, and also you love your virtual collection of ships, buy it inmediatly. I mean is the Prinz Eugen, one of the most famous ships of the WW2.

 

Maybe if you are finaly persuaded to buy her, you can be regreting your purchase in the future, just like me.

Take it as a gamble, there are a lot of people happy with the prince of seas.

The Admiral Hipper fought more naval battles.  I'm not sure why people are so enamored with a ship that's battle history was:

 

- ran into superior enemy force.  Hit an enemy ship once before enemy force disengaged, after losing flagship to lucky hit.

- avoided most combat in running away from danger to hide in Germany for the rest of the war

- managed to not get sunk somehow

 

At the end of the day, if you buy the Prinz Eugen, you're paying for the name.

   Ahhhhh buy it. For pure in game performance and perks, no. But you sound like a history buff and you like beautiful ships. Hell, I can remember buying a Kayak and comparing her lines to the Eugen. Yeah, I bought her too...

You buy her for one or two reasons:

- You are a collector or a fan of her from some other medium

- You want a KM Premium that can get KM captains trained up even faster even if you do poorly in her

 

WG already listed 6 reasons why you shouldn't buy her (The Bad and The Ugly sections), so you can finish making the call yourself.

 

Of course, if you're not in a rush and would like to gamble on a future re-release, go ahead and just skip her this time.

If you've made it up the KM CA line, and are good in them, then buy it and relish in your credits. If you haven't, or don't play CAs well, do not buy this ship! I love mine, but I have a Hindenburg, and have above average stats in my KM cruisers. I know many will not perform well in this ship, but if you can, it's worth it. (Especially when you consider the amount of credits as money you would've converted to credits. Already earned the equivalent of 6,800 doubloons, only a matter of time until I could pay for the ship in credits, and then some.

I got it because Hipper was my goal in the German cruiser line and I was stuck on the Nurnburg, which is probably a candidate for the top 5 worst cruisers in the game right now.

 

And I wanted Hipper because of her association with Prinz, anyway.

Bought it. Cool ship. Bismarck's buddy. If you do not have the $, well do not buy. I also have Hipper and Prinz Eugen is cooler.  I do sometimes sail beside the Bismarck in battle. History comes alive.

Eugen is just an "on the fence" kind of ship. I bought her on a whim and realized that I'd missed the occasional AP cruiser game because it's been a while since I finished grinding the German cruiser line. As such, Eugen is a welcome distraction.

 

Being a Hipper clone you don't expect much from her, but there's one advantage: she's a captain trainer that doesn't rely on captain skills at all for good performance and has a good captain XP bonus. Therefore I theorize that Eugen was made for training brand new or low-level captains that don't necessarily even belong in a cruiser. If this niche appeals to you like it does to me (I need at least one more captain from scratch and another captain still needs extensive leveling), then Eugen can be a semi-reasonable purchase. There, I said it.

 

If you're looking for an easy, unique or particularly good value premium, Eugen is none of the above.

It offers nothing special. Me? I'm not getting because I have tirpitz and scharnhorst. I can use 50% xp flags on tirpitz and still get more captain xp than prinz and still far cheaper too.

 

But the perhaps the biggest reason that I did not get it was the understanding that a bunch of new premiums are going to be released that I want to get far more

 

1. Russian premonition destroyer Lennon Kravits

2. Kamikaze possibly

3. Fusing possibly

4. Arizona hopeful resale

5. USA Alabama  (I can dream right).

6. British cruiser premonition maybe 

7. Even more I don't know about.

I will say Eugen will probably be my go-to cruiser for tier 8 Ranked.

I use the Eugen with 333% training bonus flag to train up German captains - it is not hard to get 15,000 in captain XP with a good game.

It's a great trainer and credit maker. I chose it over the scharnhorst because it's a better trainer for cruiser captains (and destroyers someday) and makes more money. If you enjoy playing your hipper I would consider it. You will make far more credits and you can sell your hipper for credits and move that captain to another ship and still use it on your Prinz Eugen. You have a hipper, so you understand how challenging it is to do well. For me, that makes it more fun.

I like not having 3 others with me in battle. I also like making money at tier 8 without trying. Also great to have a ship that can create a level 10 captain in less than 5 battles.

 

Now I just have to figure out a way to play her and the Hipper in the same battle so I can really make bank!

 

It's such a great ship! I really think most people are upset with the package price more than they think it's a poor vessel. I'm not a fan of $45 ships either, so I got a deal on it for $38.

 

I'd focus on my kid though. If I had one, I'd be happy to spend my money on them instead of ships. You are a true human being for putting your daughter as the priority!

I've been considering getting it but I'm still deciding too. I have the Tirpitz and Scharn and love them but I've been looking for a bit different of a play style. I've got the Kutuzov but I want something that hits harder. I've only made it to the Königsberg so the ship interests me, though the constant cit problems with Königs is annoying. But I'm just not sure dropping $50 is worth it.

Any advice?

Like yourself i was dead set on not getting this cruiser. Then someone posted the KOOL Falcon camo ( optional premium ) and i just had to grab this ship. Darn you WG for putting out such a pretty camo for this ship.

I now have her in port.
