C hull why?

why do they offer a C hull to destroyers?  you get less main guns, no extra hp, a slight increase in mobility.  Is there some other reason anyone would want to take this hull?  other than better AA.

Defensive AA fire is valuable at certain random battle tiers, depending on your division (e.g., you're a Benson with a strike Lexington and a Tirpitz in your division, and you plan to be DD screening/smoking/AA screening for your allies). It's also quite valuable for certain team battle compositions.

I get that you asked "other than better AA," but you're begging the question. It's situational and you'll only be using it in solo random battles if you are willing to sacrifice a gun and speed boost for immunity to the rare case where you're the CV's favourite target in a random battle.

These ships were historically used in an AA picket role, and I think WG has done us a solid by not only providing that option, but making it optional and outside of the progression path towards the next ship up the line.

Huh. Totally never noticed the rudder shift upgrade was tied to the C hull on these destroyers. Interesting.

Still not taking it.

But, the C hull also adds the ability to mount the Defensive Fire consumable, which can be helpful in keeping CVs from bombing you into oblivion.

Of the three USN destroyers which have access to a C-hull, only Benson has her rudder upgrade there. Farragut and Mahan's rudder upgrades are on their B-hulls, and Fletcher/Gearing do not have C-hulls.

Thanks guys that is the info i was looking for.  I do have the Benson and was wondering about it i now understand it's purpose.

"Rudder shift makes dd's have fun" ^_^ Honestly its one of the reasons I kept my mahan even when I have a benson. Your not really missing much missing one gun to be honest, yes its the "middle turret" that makes aiming shots a little wierd if you aim with that gun more, but if your used to salvo fireing, that isn't a problem to be honest. The fire rate is about the same, so vs battleships agian outside that one extra chance of a fire, your damage is pretty meh, rudder shift gives you the ability to dodge cruiser fire / dd secondarys / and dd hunters a bit easier as well as evade pin point drops a bit quicker. OH Also if you run aground, you totally can back out of 10000 times faster then with out it.

Seriously Rudder shift is like drifting in cars, honestly give it a try in a close range gunnery duel, especially with speed flags its just total awesome sause.

Actually from my perspective turret #3 is more valuable than #4 or #5. It may be abaft the superstructure, but it traverses forward. You can bow-on weave and have three guns tracking your target to both port and starboard in B-hull, whereas you only get two when doing so in a C-hull. That's a major loss of output.

If you keep your target to one side of your ship you are only looking at the difference between 80% (B-hull broadside) and 100% (C-hull broadside) instead of the difference between 40% (C-hull forward guns) and 60% (B-hull forward guns). But a C-hull USN destroyer keeping its target on one side has 80% output and far more limited evasive manoeuvres while a B-hull USN destroyer using both sides has 60% output and the full range of evasive possibilities. Personally I find it far easier to damage a ship that makes it obvious it's only going to show you one side, and far easier to avoid eating shells when I'm using cuts to both sides.

I only dropped the B hull for the C on the tier 5 and tier 6 (no I will not try to spell them off the top of my head) because that third gun (third from the bow) has a terrible forward arc.  It was only really good for running away, and most of the time I'm charging the nearest BB with all guns blazing.  That said, the AA boost is really not worth losing the potential firepower, so I'm keeping the B hull on the Mahan.

1. Rudder shift

2. Defensive fire

Defensive fire is a game changer. You may not use it 9 out of 10 but there comes this glorious moment when a CV drops. And you press DF and watch as all his bombs  and torpedoes miss you.

Most range inducing moment I had in this game?

Midway strike package spots me in my Geaing.  Pop DF.

Drops everything on me. Misses all but 1 DB hit.

Detonation

If you decide to division with a CV, taking defensive fire will save your life at least once almost every game.

Eh no idea, Number 3 has its good points and bad points i'll give you that, but then agian when I was doing my farragut / mahan / benson grinds, in the days of yore, the turrets popped off so often you were better off trying to dodge the shells just so you had something to attack with lol. So I just prefer the rudder shift to react to things a bit better.

Though my viewpoint is scewed a bit as I said -points at my register date-
