It's not clear from the screenshot, but torpedoes armed in time. Had either one of them hit in addition to the middle torp -- the cruiser would have probably died.

Because long reload time and the fact that you can't initiate damage over time with only 1 attack squadron since the enemy would just mash repair.

Also TBs more fun/effective at killing ships.
