104 yamatotamura Beta Testers 653 posts 13,839 battles Report post #1 Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) Welcome to 101 how to avoid being torped so hard you sink. (To veteran players this is old news.) Tip 101 most destroyers can torp without being spotted so if you think there is a destroyer.... MOVE LEFT AND RIGHT MORE OFTEN. Even 2 seconds of random left to right maneuver can avoid torpedo's. Stay near ally's that are more maneuverable and/or have sonar. Have an ally destroyers be a couple kilometers ahead of you, or have a ship with good sonar (German is best) stay within close range. In this case the ships ahead of you can spot some torps that you can dodge with full knowledge. (this rule apply's best if you have divisionmates or teammates who use sonar.) Slow down a tad. Slowing down can also make dodging torps easier tho it does come with a risk of being a slow or stationary target for a few moments, you can compensate this by using the Propulsion modification 2 from Tier VI and above. Turn INTO torps. I know surprise turning into torps is sometimes better. Turning into torps can prevent taking an extra torp or two. If there are torp bombers turning in can also can help. I've had countless of times where turning into CV torps prevented a torpedo or two to be armed and took no damage. (Don't forget you can change rudder time and react faster with Steering Gears Modification 2 or the new steering gear coming Soon.) Go usually bow in where you last saw a destroyer. Usually in my case I bow in or angle so I can quickly bow into potential torpedo's. Bowing in can prevent having all X amount of torpedo's hitting your broadside and reduce the amount of torps you take to 1 or 2. (depends on your ship's width.) Or lastly just accept it. Its only a game, its not a Pax contest or a huge contest that your life is on. If you're dieing to the same things maybe its your playstyle and situation or a bad day. Isn't experimenting different styles and learning the game part of the whole fun? Sometimes I see torps come out of no where and die for the first second I feel angry but later I just accept the fact it happened, because why not I personally have had some games where I have torped ships to death and the guy that just torped me just had the same relief I had when I torped and killed a target. So don't be really mad and just accept it. At least torps are dodgeable than invis-smoke HE spammer who sets you on fire 4 times. Note ships that can invis-torp All IJN destroyers, Most USS Destroyers (All high tiers can), Tashkent (certain build). Most IJN Cruisers (note Zao cannot) Technically all CV's (tho unlike DD's they don't bite too much when you find them) What are your tips or tricks that keep you float? *Finally tip use your inner 6th sense Why did you make this? Because so many players are asking for IJN nerfs which I think are pretty nerfed enough. Also been playing some USS ships and thought USS ships will eventually get torpedo nerfed so.... I did't want to loose the DD class as a whole Edited September 26, 2016 by yamatotamura

Sometimes its the tunnel vision, I don't notice the planes till the torps are already next to me. But often it just "unavoidable".

This way torpedoes will never hit you. I've seen it on YouTube

537 [KNTAI] Battlecruiser_Amagi [KNTAI] Members 3,134 posts 9,120 battles Report post #10 Posted September 26, 2016 Also, don't sail on a straight line. That's something you hear time and time again. If you think there could be a Dd on the vicinity, change directions every now and then. That throws off the lead indicator for most long range snipes. Those are the kinds most people are vexed about, and it's also one of the most easily avoidable...

Unless you're angling hard against a BB or are making use of good cover, you should strive to be unpredictable. But letting more people learn how to effectively dodge torps inevitably also further reduces DD effectiveness.
3,890 [-K--] vak_ Beta Testers, In AlfaTesters 8,179 posts 10,923 battles Report post #15 Posted September 26, 2016 Slow down a tad Also, don't forget that slowing down decreases the ship's turn radius. It's often the difference between not being hit and taking a torp to the bow (which almost always leads to flooding). Note ships that can invis-torp Most IJN Cruisers Only with concealment module + CE (and you can't mount the concealement module before tier 8). Plus they all have backward facing torps, stealth torping with those is not an easy thing. I think the only IJN CA that can sort of make stealth torping work is Atago with concealment build (9.1km detection for the win).

I was driving Fubuki in an epicenter match last night and our 2 Kageros refused to move further into the center to try to spot out the opposing DD that's stopping us from capping. So against my better judgement, I turned in closer and spotted the Fletcher for the team. Got torped by the Fletcher aiming the cruiser behind me. She launched them before I spotted her. And the team still let her slipped away. Such is life... Edited September 26, 2016 by chewonit
1,593 [CRMSN] Cobraclutch Beta Testers, In AlfaTesters 6,021 posts 4,739 battles Report post #18 Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) I like to feint a torp spread to create a move. So in my Gearing I do this from time to time when a BB is pushing into me. 1 narrow spread on his current path (If he is pushing bow on right on the marker) Once the first spread is away. I count to 15 and put the 2nd narrow spread were the target will turn after avoid the first spread (BB captains tend to turn away once they think the torps are on reload) You wanna make sure to do this BEFORE the lead moves showing his movements. You want to predict the lead by about 10-15 seconds. If you pushing into a DD in a smoke, be wary of the feint drop. Sometimes 1 drop is done in order to create a reaction. Try to be very unpredictable. This normally is a move I try at ranges of 7-10 km. (Farther he is the harder it will be to predict the drop. increase the delay on the second drop the farther he is away) Edited September 26, 2016 by Cobraclutch
