CV's Aircraft self defense and attack

I like to see just as in history shows that bombers and torpedo planes also had self defense and attack modes by using guns.  In which it will give opportunities for bombers and torpedo planes for self-defense and also attack modes after delivering their payload.

Will we be able to see this come in the next patch?

You're asking for this?

I applaud you for not being the ones asking for better CV play

As much as I'd like fighter-bombers, the current plane mechanics wouldnt allow it. They're 2 main problems I want to look at.

-Would the planes get locked in dog-fighting other fighters?

-Would they be able to manual-drop or strafe? (They use the same key, so it'd have to be one or the other)

If those 2 questions can be sorted out properly, I could see them being introduced in the future.

For better CV play you must improve the capability of its  aircraft.  For better survivability of CV's it's always been as true today in real life CV's needs other ships for protection.  But speed is a good factor to improve on for CV's.

I think DBs and TBs already have a chance of their reargunners shooting down some enemy fighters when they're engaged by them.

He's talking about the forward armament on the TBF-Avenger or the SBD series of Dive Bombers. And it is true. Most of the USN bombers could become pretty-effective fighters, and vice-versa. I mean, the F6F-5 got 2x 1000lb bombs and 6x 127mm HVARS. But Wargaming have decided to over-look the multipurpose nature of US planes in order to preserve "natural flavor" (ie: IJN supremacy.)

No, it wouldn't. All you'd have to do is an if-else statement like this (grossly over-simplified and in a programming language I made-up, but it works): [in this case, loaded and unloaded refer to torpedoes, not guns]

if object.(USN_torpedo_bomber) = status.(loaded)

   return function.(alt_key) = manual_torpedo_drop

else

   return function.(alt_key) = strafe_attack

Or, you could further simplify it:

if object.(USN_torpedo_bomber) = status.(loaded)

   return object.(USN_torpedo_bomber) = status.(torpedo_bomber)

else

   return object.(USN_torpedo_bomber) = status.(fighter)

Here is some ideas for bombers and torpedo planes:

1. Rear Gunners improve their aim over time.

2. Can make strafing pass over Target only after delivering payload.

3. After delivering their payload can only make two strafing pass before running out of ammunition and head back to the CV for reload.

4. Bombers with the circle will become tighter when using guns strike,  torpedo planes use the same but will become tighter when using gun strike the same as Torpedoes on destroyers wide and narrow range

It would be nice for bombers and torpedo planes returning back from a mission in counter and start dog fighting other bombers and torpedo planes of the same type.

do i really want my bombers to be locked into a dogfight after they drop the bombs?   They'll most likely be in enemy AA bubble when the lock occurs.  You're asking to lose all your strike planes

I agree but locking fighters with bombers would have to be addressed. I also would like to see all planes being able to strafe ships to reduce AA.

You could code the bombers so that they have the option to flee a dogfight if they didn't initiate it.

CVs have secondaries (low tier... not much), your main weapon is the planes, learn who to kill better the targer in your direction.

Read the OP. He's talking about the forward MG and cannon armaments that some US bombers were equipped with, not the secondaries.

Oh true my bad.

But planes have a bit self-defense. Not effective as fighters.

Many could function as fighters, though. I'd love to watch a Hiryu captain try to ambush my torpedo bombers, only to get strafed by my then-depleted dive bombers.

Rear gunners on bombers are generally useless after T6. And letting them dogfight is kinda pointless because CV best contributes to the team by damaging enemy ships, not necessarily by air control.

I still think that they should be given the option to strafe after they're unloaded.
