When is compensation for causing/receiving damage supposed to happen

When you collide with friendlies you see the damaged itemized on the after-battle screens, but on two occasions I was torpedoed by friendlies and I didn't notice getting compensated. The first occasion I got 30k damage and I died, the second time I got 4k damage plus 28k flooding, but I didn't die. Shouldn't I be seeing this this? Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place?
