Stop trying to yolo.

Also, try playing something other than the US line.  You may find that other country lines require different tactics that cater to your play style.

If you like to get in close, try IJN DDs.

Hey Weesel,

Some additional information would be nice. Did you watch iChase's captains academy yet? Did you find anything useful over there?

Greetz Joor

yes I have, been trying to play like that and it's blow out after blow out . Maybe I need to go back to yoloing

Weesel,

Thanks for taking the time to ask for help rather than flames and quit.

I'm in the same boat as you with a 47% win rate.  Not proud of it, but it is what it is.

I agree with MadCaptain.  Find a line that fits what you feel is natural.  I don't play CV's, not because I don't do well in them, but because that's not my style of play.  My inclination turns to DD's because I do tend to go off solo and DD's are really the only ones with an excuse to go off alone.  I like the USN and Russian DD lines.  They are generally quick and nimble.  IJN DD's tend to be more stealthy.

The important thing is to have fun.  Do I enjoy winning?  Of course.  However, I also enjoy a good loss.  That time when you and your team played smart, but RNGesus simply didn't like you or you truly got outgamed.

Best of luck and fair seas.

Why that (think about it before you answer dunno)? Do you sail broadside or do you abandon your team? Also about what ship are we talking or is it just in general?

I'd recommend posting some replays so folks can provide feedback, I can infer a few ideas from stat scrapping but without looking at actual gameplay its difficult to offer a useful critique.  Preferably an average performance in mid to high tier for each class.  Also if you haven't already take some time to watch some of the guide vids on YouTube, besides iChase, Notser, Flamu and Voulezvous TV all make useful content.

Yes watch the youtube videos and as long as you are trying to get better it will happening. Try different ships and different nations.

WASD is a very important skill to learn.  It just doesn't only work with torpedoes but with cannon fire.

As for lines, try some out.  I found myself in the Russian line a lot with WoT so I wanted to try and do more of the US line in WoWs.  I still ended up in the Russian line more here too.  With the Russian line, I liked the guns a little better.  They tend to be slower, in my opinion, but with flatter projectories and what seems to be higher penetration values, I find it easier to damage the enemy.

I'm not a big BB fan but when I play one, I have no problems with facing the enemy (directionally) and only using two out of 5+ turrets.  My damage dealing potential is dramatically less but their chance to damage me is dramatically less. You so many players wanting to bring all their guns to bear but they end up taking a beating to do so.  Cruisers can also so pretty well with facing the enemy directionally if they must.

Any way, there are a lot of players here that can help you, just give them a bit more information on what and how you are playing your ships.  Every ship class and nation's have different traits.

Another example I have is with DD's.  IJN ones tend to be sneaky torpedo runners with poor guns.  Russian DD's tend to be like light cruisers that can use AP on BB's.  US DD's are pretty rounded but with fast high arc during guns.  Shoot, while I'm shooting AP rounds with my Tashkent, in my Mahan and Yo Lang, I'll chase planes if I have to.

I know it's stupid but it would feel wrong. Thanks

Try tagging along with another DD in matches.  See what they do, see where they go... two DDs is much harder to kill than one DD.  Also, stick with the team a little bit.  Reaching out too far in a USN DD or a USN BB is just asking for trouble.

Nothing in the USN line is meant to play close in... except maybe USN DDs, but even then, the guns aren't the best out there.

Thanks Lochnivar maybe I need to accept that's as good as I'll ever get and just have fun.

:)

I wouldn't say accept it, just don't stress over it.  With your attitude, you'll learn and absorb it.  Have fun and you'll find yourself searching for ways to have even more fun by contributing what you can.  I think you'll find a generally welcoming community to all skill levels.

tag along with the best DD player in the match and support him, especially if it is IJN

For example, most KamiR  players tend to be decent with 15 pointer captain.  you can stay behind him by 1-2km and act as   support  for his scouting.  once all enemy DDs are gone, you can be more active in torping.

The problem with that, as a Kamikaze/Fujin driver with an 18pt captain, is that I distrust any gunboat that's tailing me. Good intentions or not. Too many times have I launched torps to find my 'friendly' DD has opened fire with guns. Then I get to watch my torps miss as my prey changes course in response to the gunfire! Usually I try and ditch my 'friendly' helper asap.
