I found this one news item in the "For the Record" Blog. It points out that you Alpha's have been doing good in getting WoWS ready.  :great:

I found this item interesting too

Vessels now have two metrics for health: hit points and buoyancy. If either bar hits zero, the ship sinks; some weapon systems will have more of an impact on buoyancy than on hit points.

It makes sense to use this too for game mechanics.

Read this early this morning. Very good look at the way the game mechanics worked. As you mentioned the bouyancy factor is really cool. Almost works like damaging a module in tanks haha.

Gotta love Silentstalker's little personal drama about people copying his stuff without permission and him returning the favour...

EDIT:
I think this is the actual source, but I'm not too sure about it, I saw it on the EU forum.

The most interesting thing is the removal of the "artillery" camera, I don't remember reading anything about it before.

This is what caught my eye immediately. Before, we were told it was an artillery view. Now, according to this, they say they changed it to be more like sniper view in WoT. Honestly, either view works for me, although I'm not an artillery player whatsoever. However, if they did indeed change this, I am curious about how difficult it will be to sight in very distant targets.

Although I generally trust FTR, you still have to take it with a grain of sand. While this may be true, it may not be. Whoever they sourced it from could have just misspoke. Either way, I look forward to what will come out of Closed Beta when it arrives.

You know, one of my favorite naval games of all times, Battlestations: Pacific, uses a direct camera firing mode. In that game, you can fire your guns from a third-person view (allowing you to see your entire ship and the awesome effects of firing your guns while doing a broadside) or scroll your mouse wheel in order to zoom-in and go into the sniper mode, allowing you to clearly see anything within your firing range. However, if you are doing a broadside to a ship that is practically pulled along side you, going into sniper mode will actually just make it harder for you to hit the enemy ship since they are so close. Snipe mode (at least in Battlestations: Pacific) basically triples (x3) the size of warships, allowing you to see extreme ranges. If World of Warships will have a direct firing mode that is similar to [edited]:P, I can guarantee you that you will be able to engage enemy ships at long range. Hope this helps!

I had not thought of [edited]: P as I haven't played it in a long time. You're correct in that it made hitting ships from far away rather easy with its sniper mode. I had assumed that IF they put that kind of sniper mode into WoWs, that it would work easily. Leading a target with this sniper mode, however, was a bit of a challenge, if I remember correctly. However, I still know that it will be a lot of fun. I'm not against them removing the artillery 'god mode' view. I'm simply curious as how it will play out, as well as change our perspective of the game.

That being said, does this mean that the previous aiming ellipses they had talked about may be removed? I hope we still have to take a couple salvos before our guns are properly trained on a target.

Not a tester, so this is just my perspective. God Mode while not realistic dies give the player a better idea of how close or far away his shots are from the target. Which would act a lot like depth perception for the player. Sniper Mode gives you a more realistic look, but if the graphics aren't up to showing shot splash it would be harder to correct your fire to hit the target. I realize there maybe other things in play (NDA) that we won't know about it open beta. But I think it would be nice if the player could switch between the two modes.

Keep Firing,

Not sure about that last paragraph/question. Ask on the developers question and answers thread.

definitely not true. Wishful thinking tank ;)

A number of testers in both the NA and EU forums were giving me the impression that it could actually be the case. Oh well.

That's very interesting.

Well folks, looks like we have confirmation straight from a developer that we will have a third wave of alpha testers.

Well then if this is true we might be seeing some damage control here, but then again they could just say that to make us think that way when they really are trying to use reverse psychology on us.

Well, the article does say its intentionally to discourage long range battles...

That article was a good read. I really cant wait to see how the devs put this game together. It is a difficult task for sure, but from that article it looks like there doing well.

I have been away for a long while and feel very left behind from reading a lot of what has bee going on here lately.

I will say I am kind of glad about the non artillery style shooting. Yes it would seem more like naval shooting to have that mode, but I am not sure how it would "feel" I could see a mixed system of sniper style, with something that showed splash markings for ranging in. Probably to complex.... I feel like arty mode would have to retain the very large circles to remain balancing. Also to pull in some from a different game, perhaps something that showed markers for each barrel/turret when firing, but that could lead to odd maximizing that could also unbalance things. just kind of talking here.... But I feel that sniper styled shooting could work to make this a interesting game all the more.
