I got it as well. Eventually decided to try uninstalling and re-installing the game, except I also can't re-download the game (site can’t be reached, "The webpage at http://dl-wows-gc.wargaming.net/na/files/MDcyICBcdT/WoWS_internet_install_na.exe might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address").

What is it with Russian game updates triggering anti-virus activity. I have to straight up disable my AV to update War Thunder, too.

I've never before had to do any of that with any game I've ever played; including War Thunder and this one.

It fixed the issue for me this morning. usually the first thing i try with an error like this on any game.

The problem with that is that it assumes you are fully aware of any risks, hidden programs, or malicious software of any kind and that you know what you're doing, so it disables any and all defenses against those things and runs the program anyway.

That's not something I'm keen on doing. I guess if Wargaming wants to keep players, they'll fix it. If they don't, so be it.

Seems to be a rare issue, it's happening to me as well. I'm going to try the compatibility mode thing.

Edit: Changing compatibility mode for the desktop launcher to Windows 7 and then running as admin fixed the issue for me.

2nd edit: Issue NOT resolved. I am now getting an "Critical error: The data obtained from the update service is incorrect, the application cannot continue, see log for details."

I'm getting this same thing. I'm actually on Windows 7, so I don't think changing the compatibility mode will work for me.

I'm from Costa Rica  and had the same problems described here,  change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4  and problem is fix, game is updating now.

Well, I just launched this morning and the update started. I didn't change a thing. So it was definitely an issue on Wargaming's end...as usual.
