My friends have recently started playing. They're WOT players so they said they want the biggest ship and biggest guns. Which line would be best for them

Easily German. They are so forgiving because of the armor set up.

Another vote for the German line. Really enjoyed the Nassau as a low tier BB vs the IJN and US T3's. Coupled with the German premium BB's which I enjoy a lot as well I find it hard recommending other BB lines over the German one right now.

It also doesn't hurt that the German cruiser line is not bad either since you have to start there anyway.

Germans. Much higher skill floor especially at lower tiers(3-5). IMO this is mainly due to the shorter gun ranges, which forces players to not snipe at 17-20km and close the distance which typically increases damage and accuracy.  The fast reload, armor and secondaries help a lot too.

Once they finish T5 Konig and maybe play some Bayern, they should be experienced enough to decide on their own.

Germans hands down.  They are the easiest to do decently in the lower tiers for newbs.  The armor is forgiving and they have a lot of firepower both main guns and secondaries .

Yamato has the biggest guns, but it will be a long grind to get there.  They might give up in the process.

Germany is so far the most OP line I have played yet.  Right out of the chute, you have the Nassau, and it is performing way above the other nations.  Kaiser, is a bit quirky, but then Konig is solid.

Bayern and Gnesnieau, will be fun shooty ships, and then Bismark will be Tanky.. And the T10 Grober Kurfurst ... well, it's probably the closest thing to the Yamato.

Not to mention for a complete newbie, the Hermelin, Dresden and Kolberg are a great CA line to do before you get to T3 BBs..

Japan gets the biggest guns consistently( tier 6 is an odd ball, but it still has More guns, if not bigger)

The IJN line keeps sort of switching between slower and more armored and faster and thin-skinned ships, but they usually have great main batteries.  If it's just firepower - go here, but it's not the easiest to learn on as the tactics of the last ship really don't necessarily apply.

USN is pretty consistent in setup, slow, and gradually sticking on better guns until they start to speed up near the end.

That said - go German, they're very hard to citadel (taking shots into the vulnerable machine spaces, which does max AP damage), so they're more forgiving in play if you're flanked.  Great secondary batteries don't hurt either.

Depends on what they're after.

If they're looking to "Live & Die" by the merit of their Main Battery, IJN all the way, especially with Yamato as the crowning jewel to that line.

If they're wanting brawling and good protection, the German line.  Those high tier German BBs in particular let you take some shots that would have ended you if you were using a USN ship.

If they want to work for it with inferior ships, then the USN line all the way.

Tell them to forget about "Biggest ships, biggest guns" jerking off and go with German BB's as newbies. They'll have the easiest and most enjoyable time. Good armor protection to save them from less-than-ideal tactics and positioning, quicker-firing guns to make up for less-than-perfect aim.

Germans have the smallest guns, so if it's gun size they want, they should go IJN (biggest guns and longest range), but those ships require more skills to use because of problems with their armor.

Eh, past Myogi it's not seriously a part of the ship's play style until the Amagi.  The mid-tiers can do just fine in the hands of the average player; sure, they'll still get plowed by a smart BB that exploits their weaknesses, but it's not until the Amagi that a single salvo can kill you from near full-health with alarming reliability again.
