My understanding is that if the armor is thick enough for the AP round fuse to ignite and the shell explosive to detonate... Then would hitting the conning tower deal Citadel damage? The conning towers in battleships, in particular, are very thick (lol, Yamato at 500mm thick). Not that I'd try it myself, since they're quite small, but for someone more adept, is it a viable target, I wonder?

It should be a regular pen if it does penetrate since the citadel is you know, below decks.

No, it isnt. Citadels are always the lower midsection of the hull, nowhere else.

Would be cool if it caused some different kind of damage if you got penned there maybe an orders delay for ship maneuvers.

Unless you're an Iowa, in which case they're everywhere.

127mm HE shell? Yup: Citadel.

Not always, Russian cruisers have it pretty high in the hull.

what is the function of the conning tower?

Detonation bait? Kill the captain, ship is helpless.

The conning tower is where the ship would be conned (controlled) by the captain (and other officers of course) during a battle. US Battleships had one that was usually 3 stories tall with different functions. The one behind the enclosed bridge was a pilothouse, the one above was for fire control, and the one below was for navigation or something like that. It's really easy to see aboard the North Carolina.

OK, I got it. So hitting the conning tower won't mean black ribbons popping up and hitting juicy citadels... But. I assume you still do get regular 33's on them (normal penetration hits).

Though, if you asked me, I'd think it outta hit for citadel (black ribbon), logically speaking. Like, while you're not quite wrecking boiler rooms and magazines, you're pretty much targeting the brains (direct control center) of the vessel! The captain, commanding officers, navigator and so forth. But as this is an arcadey game, we can let it slide, I guess.

It was probably a conscious decision on the dev's part to excluded it from being a citadel because it would confused the majority of the players who already have poor understanding of angling and penetration mechanics.
