Is this game to ultimately be like WoT with many nations and several lines for each class? Or is this just a small adjustment for the IJN DD line that won't be repeated? Will France be a contender? Poland?

France will likely get at least cruisers, DDs, and BBs. Poland...I don't think they can put together a full line of anything. Maybe as part of some pan-european tech tree of smaller navies, but not on its own.

Give it time. You'll have every major super power with a full tree except some won't have certain classes. They might have premiums in that class but some nations just never designed enough ships to fill a tree.

As far as lines go, here's what we have in-game or confirmed, along with a few possible expansions (as far as Q&As and Searches go):

 

USN:

• 1 Destroyer Line
  • No further plans to expand this currently
• 1 Cruiser Line
  • Confirmed to eventually be split into separate CA and CL lines and additional ships filled in
• 1 Battleship Line
  • Tentatively possible to eventually have 5 branches (2 Fast, 2 Slow, 1 Battlecruiser), but for now no further plans to expand this
• 1 Carrier Line
  • No further plans to expand this currently

 

IJN:

• 2 Destroyer Lines
  • Confirmed as Coming Soon
• 1 Cruiser Line
  • Unconfirmed, but likely to have a short branch soon as well, given ARP Takao's appearance and WG's last intention of releasing her at the same time or close to the same time as her Line version
• 1 Battleship Line
  • Tentatively possible to have 4 branches (2 Slow, 1 Fast, 1 Battlecruiser), but currently no further plans to expand this
• 1 Carrier Line
  • No further plans to expand this currently

 

RN:

• 1 Destroyer Line
  • Tentatively confirmed via promotional materials using a few of them in motion
• 1 Cruiser Line
  • RN CL line confirmed and in testing
• 1 Battleship Line
  • Tentatively confirmed, but only as far as WG saying they intend to get RN Battleships out sometime in 2017
• 1 Carrier Line
  • Tentatively confirmed, but only as far as WG mentioning there will be an RN carrier line at some point, but carriers are not their priority right now

 

KM:

• 1 Destroyer Line
  • Tentatively confirmed, WG stated they would be the last Line released for 2016
• 1 Cruiser Line
• 1 Battleship Line
• NO CARRIER LINE
  • WG's last stance was that they were unlikely to work on a KM carrier line given the low popularity of carriers and extreme paper ships in general, and only release Graf Zeppelin as a Premium

 

France:  Confirmed to have at least 3 lines

• 1 Destroyer Line
• 1 Cruiser Line
• 1 Battleship Line

 

Italy:  Confirmed to have at least 3 lines

• 1 Destroyer Line
• 1 Cruiser Line
• 1 Battleship Line

 

Russia:

• 1 Destroyer Line
• 1 Cruiser Line
• 1 Battleship Line
  • Work delayed due to demand for RN ships by all Servers, including Russia's own
• 1 Carrier Line
  • Work delayed indefinitely due to: demand for RN ships by all Servers including Russia's own, unpopular class, and unpopular opinion on a mostly paper line

 

Others:  All others here are likely one-off Premiums or Premium ships of regular line ships (clones) with a few differences after flying a new Flag

• Pan-Asian (Chinese/Taiwanese)
• Commonwealth
  • Unconfirmed, but one modeled ship listed as appearing under the Commonwealth Nationality rather than British
• Poland

Oh there are more nations coming, just takes time.  British ships are coming next and I'll bet good money France and Italy will also be represented.

We're going to get a crapload of lines eventually but for now all we've got is a second IJN DD line as far as multiple lines of the same class. Like if WG wanted to they could start splitting multiple warships of the same class that differed in characteristics by the end of the war/their sinking (for example Hiryuu and Soryuu) and give them some weird undefinable reallife stats to differentiate them then put them in different lines/tiers.

Many have to remember Rome(Tanks) was not built in a day.  When World of Tanks launched it had 3 nations with 3 major lines and one smaller light tank line. They were USA, Russia and Germany.

 

Germany at the time had 2 heavy tank lines, 1 TD line, one medium tank line and the Arty line and the LTs ended at tier 5.

 

Russia had 1 of each as did the USA.

 

Wasn't till probably 2 years ago we saw the explosion in nations and lines and further adding multiple lines to the older nations.
