Oh yeah..saw this movie a while back...I though it was an cool flick.

 

I know some people didnt like it..since it a Japanese made movie and their style is different from Hollywod.

Yessir, yes indeed.  It is from Joe Hisaishi.  Search for him and  Otoko-tachi no Yamato  and you will find the entire soundtrack.  

Great stuff, makes John Williams sound like an amateur.

Very good movie, a touch pearl harbour esque in the number of planes the crew are able to shoot down (in reality the Yamato scored very very very few kills in her final mission)

unrealistic and totaly pro american to believe the .50 was able to do  more damage.  It's just .50 we aren't speaking about 20+mm.
Moreover most of the structure was armored against splinters and aircraft straffing.  Only few parts were left totaly unshielded and of course guncrew for the additional and non shielded AA positions.  but every original ones had shield enough to deflect .50  as they were shielded enough to endure the blast pressure of the 18.1 inches main guns

Nevertheless the purpose of the film is not to speak about the last battle of the yamato but her crew

No i was making an observation about how the individual crew were going down, been hit by a .50 will not result in a puff of blood...

My apologize;  When you spoke about soft targets I was thinking to some installations on the ship.  not on the crew... but yep 12.5mm will do much ... heavy damage on human body.  Looks more like 7.7mm...
