What happens to the ships we have now when the IJN DD changes happen?

Say you have a Fubuki, do you get the new tier VIII ship?

Do you get to keep Bucky as well?

Warships already did something similar when it switched the Mogami and Myoko, you get the replacement, anything you had on the old one you get on the new one, all the equipment and xp is switched to the replacement.

 

You get the Fubuki if you also have a Mitsuki in your port that would be exchanged.

Generally they have given out the new ship to those that already had it in their garage

Typically that's how WoT in the past has done thing. Say you had the Fubuki and they changed the tiers, WG would let you keep the Fubuki and then give you the new tier 8 as well, netting you a tier 6 ships and a tier 8 ship with a new port slot. On the other hand WG was also just swapped out tanks with the new ones and called it a day, no keeping the Fubuki or getting new port slots. Really depends on their mood because they have done it both ways.

What about if you wanted to get shima and youre at lets say hatsu. Will you get both tier 7s so you can get both lines?

I doubt they'll give you the new line.

 

Like they'll give you progress for the old line up to wherever you are, and you can grind the new line from the split.

They generally just swap out the tank/ship at that tier. On rare occasion they will give the original tank/ship as it is in the tech tree or as a premium. For example when they put the SpahPanzer at tier VII on console they gave us that, and made our Aufklarungspanzer Panthers premium tanks, for free.

I would say wait until WGNA says what they will do to ships you already have. They always tell you exactly what they will do before the update hits, regardless of them giving out free ships or not. Though you can grind and save credits, I just wouldn't buy the Kagero until you know for sure (unless you just generically are going up the line)

I've probably said this elsewhere so I apologize if I have - butt.... depending on the Fubuki replacement, stuffing it with what you had in the Fubuki may not work to the replacement's "strengths". Additionally, you may therefore find a need to respec your commander. If I were to predict anything, it will be they take the path of least work on their behalf, hand out the stuff and say, "Here you go! Go forth and conquer!".
