Trouble w/Mic since update

I'm not able to use the mic now since update ... its a usb type

Windows 8.1 reports mic/drivers are working.

Audio Recording Software checks out.

Reset WoWs configuration settings to defaults

Performed WoWs file integraty checks

Removed mods/skins

Still a no-go.

Any ideas?

Many others have been experiencing these problems, there's been a few other threads complaining about the same issue. No idea what the problem is though.

For me it was not a game update, it was a windows update that broke sound.

 

I am running a state of the art gaming laptop and my sound is a creative labs product.  It's most current driver is months old and Creative labs is not playing nice with windows.  So no new driver in sight, in fact one of there customer service reps basically told me it is not their product and that they aren't fixing it.  Something about the OEM who uses it, alienware, will have to write drivers cause it is a proprietary chip set they make just for alienware.  ??? 

 

 My headphones work, but mic and computer speakers do not.  I can hear but not talk.  I die more while typing.  HA go figure.
