when the St. Louis was the terror of tiers 2-5.  Now?     71 HE Main Battery hits, all on CLs...

2 fires.

Working as intended.

Power creep. The US and IJN lines are getting left behind by power creep. The US line needs a major overhaul, especially the BBs.

The USN BBs are doing fine, especially when you get to the higher tiers. They're just trickier to play because of their slower speed and usually shorter range, at least until you get to the NC and above. Its more the USN cruisers that need a little loving really.

As for the IJN line, I wouldn't know, since I don't play the IJN ships, other than Mikasa. =3

Thats why I stopped playing the USN Cruser line. I gave up at the Pepsicola got tired of doging and weaving all game. Soon as I am spotted a BB is licking his chops as I am a floating citadel.

I stopped at the New Orleans... asking about on the forum, the next ship up wasn't much better... not till you hit the end of the line does it get really good. But I gotta say, the Pensa is literally a one shot salvo for any decent BB at almost any angle. I feel for those guys driving them because I too was once there, grinding away in the Pensa (or pepsi,  pepsi cola) hoping it would soon be over when I got the NO, which should have given me a clue.

Ask the New Orleans if it was going to get any better before the end - her initials tell you - NO.

I don't remember any particular change on the St. Louis recently.  It does see more (new) opponents that can reliably take her down though.

Oh look. Someone is sad that St Louis isn't a monster anymore.

And we get people complaining about USN CAs.

It is true. Every thread ends up as a whinefest about USN CAs.

St.Louis is still an annoying little bastard that pecks at you forever, occasionally starting fires. But the Bogatyr just simply does what she does better.

Comments about power creep notwithstanding, I give St. Louises a very wide berth when in my Isokaze. Bogatyr may be a bit better in terms of firepower (especially the fiddly way the developers "downgraded" her guns so she can then take full advantage of BFT/EM/AFT buffs—the cheeky little b*stards), but her citadel gets penetrated just fine. The St. Louis has more staying power and is, thus, more annoying to deal with.

Remember one time there was an event that took place long time ago, known as, "The St. Louis Inquisition", where everybody on both teams were St. Louis cruisers? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

When did St. Louis start to suck?

Pretty sure it received no fire nerf as OP seems to be implying, it still has its coal bunker as armor arrangement, and it still spews a rather alarming amount of shells.

I'll grant it isn't the special little snowflake it once was, but it's still hardly a pushover.

Who said anything about it being a pushover?

St. Louis isn't a fire-spewer and it never was. It does however have a high rate of fire and can rack up a lot of alpha damage through HE spam or even shooting AP into structure elements. Those 152s can also citadel-pen other light cruisers.

It's as nasty as it ever was and still the most heavily armored cruiser in its tier, to boot.

Its hard not to whine when they are all pretty much the worst statistically.

St. Louis is still good, and probably even better since it doesn't see tier 5 games anymore. However, the Bogaytr is just better. Also, the new Nassau has knocked the ole' Louie down a peg. Its actually a competent Tier III BB.

Finally someone gets it. AP all the way in it. When I was doing the 150 kill mission, it was AP all day every day. Poor Kirov got caught facing me at 5km. Didn't fire torps. Only fired HE. Wracked up a good 6-7 citadels in two salvos. Close range it is an AP monster. Long range HE isn't bad.
