New Premium Ship Event - Idea

Right now Wargaming is advertising the game. WOWS has released the Bismark, and a new German Premium ship to go with it. As well, they also released the Dunk. But why stop there?

 

Lets think about this...Right now you have more people playing WOWS than at any other time that I can remember. Right now you are spending money to advertise the game. As well, you are finally putting together a Clan Wars map and Clan system for this game. Right now, people like the game. It was obviously a good time to advertise for it. 

 

But this is what is either going to be needed to be handled soon, or is now.

 

1. You need these new players to be invested into the game.

2. You need these new players to have a way to get captain xp and ships ready for clan wars.

3. You need these new players to have a way to buy into clan wars if they are very new to the game.

4. You need more money.

5. High tier ships are very expensive to play.

6. You are including premium permanent cammo to many free to play ships.

 

For every single one of the six points, the solution to all of these points is to release all of your premium ships and have a month long event for captain xp in any ship that people buy. I will answer why selling more premium ships is the answer to every single point.

 

1. There are only 4 main things that keep a player invested in a game. Those 4 things are premium ships, high xp captains, other players they have met in the game, and doing well in the game. All of these 4 things are solved when a player buys a good premium ship. Fortunately, you actually do sell decent if not great premium ships. A premium ship helps to grind a captain to high level by a lot. Many players do not even realize that a premium ship in this game can use any national captain in it, which greatly increases the desire and value of buying very good premium ships in this game. Selling more premium ships right now, while you are advertising the game is the smart move to get more new players invested into the game. Since you have made so many ships permanently available in the shop, have you regretted that decision? I don't think so.

 

2. Once a new player has bought a great premium ship and stays playing in the game because they are invested into it, then they are going to need to have a decent captain for clan wars that is on its way very soon from what I hear. It can take a long time to get a captain up. Not having good captains is so far going to be a big factor in clan wars as many players are new to this game and have skipped around many different lines trying to find what they like to play. So, if you want clan wars debute to be more successful and have more players involved, then they will need a way to train captains quickly. So, by selling almost every single premium ship in the game for an entire month, you will be able to say for certain that you did the best that you could to enable players to get the captains that they need for clan wars, team battles, and other multiplayer content long before it was critical.

 

3. Clan wars release will bring over some players from WOT who have accounts here, but don't play here much. More importantly, it may greatly help to bring back former players who have since left both games. That is a lot of players. These players will need a way to buy into multiplayer content and be effective with their teams by doing so. The best way to solve this problem is to sell all of your premium ships that are clan wars, team battles, and tournaments usable for a long time before clan wars is released. Remember, they also need time to grind captains in these ships at least to ten points. This means that these premium ships need to be sold for a while and an event needs to be issued that gives bonus captain xp for those who buy and play these premium ships. How can the players be mad at you for this when it would be doing everything you can to help their clans get new players, train new players, and possibly keep new players by helping them to get the ships and captains they need if they want to buy into the system quickly.

 

4. With all these players and new servers you need to make more money from the game. You need to get these players invested and enjoying the multiplayer aspects of this game. Selling all of your premium ships is the best way to make money, keep players invested, and get them what they need for clan wars, team battles, and other content. Premium ships also gain a ton of xp that can only be used if the player spends more money. It is the purchase that enables more purchases for the company. You want to sell as many premium ships as you can. You can't do this, if you don't actually release them for sale before players will actually need and want them in clan wars and other content.

 

5. If clan wars is going to be a high tier event like it is in WOT then you will need to solve the ecconomy problem for players in a way that makes money for you. You need to enable premium ships to make more money for the players. That is how WOT does it and it works because top clans want their crews to have maximum crew skills and often run premium tanks to do this. But if they don't make enough money from running premium ships then clan wars is going to die very fast. You will lose a lot of the players that you are spending money to try to get right now if they can't have a fun way to earn the credits necessary for clan wars high tier and expensive consumable game play. The best way to ensure a win / win is to make high tier premium ships earn more money than they do now. This will make the most money for you, and it will enable the clan wars players to get more needed tier ten play experience in pub games while also earning the cash necessary for clan wars play. You have to enable players to solve the economy problem while also still playing high tier ships at the same time. They can't effectively learn to play tier ten clan wars (if that is what you make) if they are always having to play tier 6-7 in order to grind credits. Instead, let them play decent tier 8's that make good credits and they will buy them as that will enable them to continue learning tier ten game play while grinding a captain and making credits at the same time.

 

6. You are including premium permanent cammo on regular free to play ships. If you continue to do this then you will make less money in the future. Buying premium permanent cammo on a regular tier ship is less than half the cost of a same tier premium ship. So, it relatively makes buying a premium ship pointless unless that premium ship makes a ton more credits than the normal regular tier version. You will lose money in the end by going this rout. Instead, make premium ships earn far more credits and the players will still buy them because they will need a lot of credits for clan wars play.

 

Conclusion: You need to release for sale every single premium ship that you ever made for an entire month long event and have missions for captain xp for using those premium ships. As well, the advertising for this month needs to be completely tied into clan wars wording, team battles wording, tournaments wording, and other multiplayer content. Players need to realize that they should buy these premium ships now if they want to be ready for clan wars this winter. You might even want to sell some premium special clan wars or unique cammo to further emphasis the point that these premium ships are great for clan wars players. Many clans are trying to recruit and train up for team battles. Help them and help yourselves by selling the premium ships that their new players will need for this multiplayer content. Help them by telling them which premium ships are going to be best for clan wars, team battles, and tournaments.

 

One more thing:

 

You want more current reviews of premium ships and other regular ships before clan wars is released. By selling all of the premium ships again you will trigger a new round of you tube video current reviews of these ships. This is another round of great free player driven advertising that if you release them now, could have great synergy with your other current game advertising. You guys need to simply go all in on this one. Holding back now isn't going to help you. You really gain nothing buy holding back the sale of the ships that players will either want or need for clan wars and other multiplayer content. Let the flood gates open even more. Go all in and sell all of your premium ships for an entire month, as pointed out in six points, it is the best thing for everyone involved.

Gonna be honest, didn't read the whole thing.  It's nearly time for me to be in bed, and that's a much larger wall of text than I was expecting.  Just to address point 6 real quick though, a premium ship on it's own earns more than any "normal" ship with premium camo as the camo only affects the experience earned on that ship and not the credits.

I don't think you've taken into account the type of people who play this game...

 

WG went all out to draw a diverse crowd, this isn't WOT, and will never be. It should be obvious if you play this game enough, probably 70% of the players you come across, aren't emotionally invested in the game, it's just entertainment.

(Basing 70% on the average team build you see daily.)

WG seems to have purposely chosen this route, and have driven off a lot of higher skill players, with lack of any type of real team support. 

Attempting to draw lots of hardcore players to this game will create a toxic atmosphere that the average player won't tolerate for long. 

I don't think WG wants to even try to go for those type of players...they are demanding,  usually very angry when things don't go right, and many of them wouldn't survive long with the draconian new rules  of behavior WG instituted.

Casual players spend money, and most of them don't get too excited when things go badly, don't use as many resources, and probably don't play regularly.

 

This is all deduction and conjecture on my part, but it seems strange the WG would have 0 support for clans a year out of beta, unless they had a good reason.

If clan wars happens... no... paid... advantages. That will ruin it WITHOUT QUESTION for EVERYBODY who actually wants it. The mere idea that you'd suggest it's a good thing astounds me.

People use premium tanks in tier 6 and tier 8 world of tanks Clan wars all the time. It will not ruin anything. The best thing WOT ever did was create and sell the Cromwell B premium tier 6 tank. It is one of the most used tier 6 clan wars and skirmish tanks in the game. Having viable clan wars premium ships will not ruin the game at all. It never ruined clan wars in WOT. Instead, it actually helps clans because now they have a way for new members to buy what they need in order to play with the rest of the clan if they don't have it.

 

When WOT released premium tanks that were just like regular tanks but only premium (like the cromwell B) people thought that it would break the game. The reason that it doesn't is because the premium ships are rather exactly like regular tier ones. It only adds more of the same, not some new OP unknown quantity. The viable clan wars premium tanks that WOT made was one of the smartest decisions that WOT ever did. WOWS needs to do the same.
