Cool - but why r the ships SO close - Why can't you shoot 200 feet away. If this was sail ships with cannon balls i would get it.
Which btw your using something similar to BB guns - this works great if these were sailing vessels of old.

Good job in making the models too.
BTW when you ship sinks in the pond - how do u get it out - Hobby seems really expensive too.

And i notice everyone shooting at the Hull, not the superstructure - nice Hobby , but not accurate WW2 naval warfare.

enjoy and have fun

shooing a a BB gun remotely like this, or let alone normally, Hitting targets form 200ft is often a challenge, plus shooting them remotely means you need to see where the guns are facing so the need to be only a few feet away.

And shooting the hull is fairly accurate to WW2 warfare, you cannot sink a ship by shooting the superstructure the only way you can sink it is to make part of it flood, so needing to shoot the hull or below the water line.

My hobbies are building models that I never get around to painting and wishing I had the money to get a radio controlled warship.

Working on my chainmail, training with a wooden bastard sword, and trying to save money for the rest of the equipment.

Also, playing games on the PC.

Hold on there for a second - Are you guys using REAL weapons ?

If so - do people get hurt from time to time ?

Looks cool but looks like you better know what you are doing.

Looks fun too.

The weapons are "real" but with blunt edges and not near the quality of the real medieval weapons, a lot of time goes to training with your mates I have sword training two times a week.
Sometimes people get hurt, nothing serious so far, and most of the time is about people not using the armour properly.

The hobby has safety guidelines that adhere to the trajectory of each and every shot.  There is a rigorous inspection of all models before they take to the water.   Here is an excerpt from the community as a whole:  Armament: This area will test the strength of the guns and any other armament the ship carries (mines, etc.). Penetration tests and cannot elevate above horizontal will be the primary focus. CO2 delivery and all safety items involved will also be checked.  These evaluations are singular in scope, and no club operates outside of these parameters, largely due to insurance and liability factors.

Hobbies, huh.  Somewhere in these forums I mentioned I am an electronics nerd, mechanical geek, avid pilot (though no longer certified), entrepreneur, information technology consultant (business owner), and currently enjoying my graduate work for my business admin major, as well, my computer science minor.

As for a true leisurely hobby, I would default to simulations--all of them--with a focus on realism, authenticity, and historical parallels.  I have a fascination with reliving historical accounts, which is something I still do today, except with real-world NTSB data, re-enacting incidents to determine what factors contributed to the accident.

there is a line between realism and being able to actually have something that you can do as well as making it into a fun game.  the superstructures on models don't do anything so there is no point in shooting them except for being an [edited], that said, they still get hit all the time (bb's skip across water) and get secondary's blown off as well as damage to structure, we tend to build the superstructure out of foam or rubber so it can resist hits but they are not bullet proof ;)

the ships have bilge pumps that are rated to pump a certain volume of water per minute depending on the tonnage of the ship, we get waterproofed rc components and anything we cant get waterproofed, we attempt to make them as waterproof as we can ourselves.  that said, some components do bite the dust when the ships sink but that's the price you pay, generally though a sinking just requires you to fish your ship from the murky depths then dry it out.  patching up the holes in the hull and throwing it back onto the water for another go.

oh and they fire up to 1/4 inch metal bb's at about 150 FPS, generally if you get hit, its only a ricochet, which is good cause getting a direct hit is a few times worse then getting hit point blank with a paintball.
