Smoke, firing from smoke and AA

So why is it that a ship can stay in smoke, have planes overhead and fire main batteries without ever being spotted yet the moment it fires a single AA gun, no matter how small (yes, even one of those 13mm machine guns), the ship instantly becomes spotted?

One would imagine that a main battery firing would be more observable than that of a 13mm machine gun... yet in this case, a 13mm gun apparently produces more visibility than an 460mm gun.

Shouldn't planes be able to spot any sort of firing from smoke since it can spot AA firing? Or is this some sort of oversight/"cause reasons" by WG?

I have been in smoke many times with the AA firing off at enemy planes and never been spotted by them unless the other team had hydro/radar on...might that be the reason you were spotted?

There also does seem to be a bug that you get spotted for no reason in smoke (no hydros/radar around) but over all the games I've played it's only happened to me twice.  One of the games the other team was just as clueless how I showed up, so maybe that could be it too?

Simply commenting on the inconsistency of the mechanic.

You don't get spotted when your AA fires from smoke... The mechanic is working as intended

AA used to light up ships in smoke, but that was removed nearly a year ago.  Your AA can blaze away at planes from smoke all day long now and you won't be spotted.

in my oppinnion firing from inside of smoke with impunity is just a exploit that needs to be taken away..ether increase the acustic search or just give radar to all cruisers from rank 2 and up with different ranges..DD's don't need that exploit. it dossen't make the game play any better..it makes it worse

you don't have impunity. People torp smoke all the time, and Hydroacoustic already slaughters DDs.

My guess is that you strayed outside of your smokescreen when you fired your AA...or you were detected by some other method as previously mentioned.  I have fired AA many times in a smokescreen and not been detected.

Contrary to common belief, smoke screens aren't distortions in the fabric of space and time that only allows shells and torpedoes to come out of them. You can actually shoot and torp back to flush people out of smokes.

If you want to complain about something complain about the destroyers that can shoot beyond their max detection range, that's something to talk about.

You obviously don't know what the word 'exploit' means. Firing from smoke is a feature that WG intended. WG just added clear indications of the smoke boundaries so that people know exactly when and when they are not in the smoke. They also gave a reward ship that has 66% uptime on firing from smoke.
