So...I finally managed to research the Colorado, but still have another 4.5 million credits and another port slot to go to take her into battle. When I do, what are some things I should do as far as upgrades and captain skills go? Any advice will be welcomed. Thanks, and good luck on the high seas!

Get the range upgrade and make sure your AA is decent. She's a beast. Kinda slow and small, but hits like a truck. I have some 300k elite xp on mine, went with BFT, BoS, EM, vigilance, and AFT

How to git gud in the Colorado.

1: Free XP all of the Colorado's upgrades.

2: Equip the following modules: Main Armaments Mod.1, Artillery Plotting Room Mod 1, Damage Control 1, and Rudder Shift.

3: Take the following captain's skills:

Tier 1=BFT for better AA and faster reload of secondaries and Basics of Survivability for better fire control.

Tier 2=Expert Marksman for better turret traverse and Fire Prevention if you're a pyrophobe.

Tier 3= Superintendent for extra plane and HP regen and/or Vigilance if you're a torpedophobe and/or High Alert if you want to speed up your Damage Control cooldown.

Tier 4= AFT for better AA and secondaries and/or Survivability Expert for easier Dreadnought medals and/or Manual AA control to make the planes fear you.

Tier 5=Preventative Maintenance because the turrets get knocked out easily or Jack of All Trades for faster consumable cooldown or Manual Secondary Control to keep DDs at arm's length.

4: Equip the following flags: India Bravo Terrathree, Zulu, Mike Yankee Soxisix, India Yankee, India Delta, November Echo Setteseven, November Foxtrot, and Sierra Mike.

5: Equip premium consumables. Spotter plane is better if you want to fight at range, catapult fighter is better if you're scared of planes.

6: Play her as a ship that can engage at all ranges. She's best at mid-short range though. That's where the citadels come easiest. Angle her armour and time the enemy's gun reloads. Use her consumables wisely.

7: ?????

8: Profit.

So many point of disagreement....

T1 skill is the only one i entirely agree on.

Fire prevention is a waste of two points unless you literally have 2 points sitting around and dont care about respeccing later.

Superintedent for extra plane?? You will never run out of planes, its actually just about impossible and you rarely make use of a fifth heal, this is even less necessary if you have the dreadnought flag, vigilance is the best option, but high alert can be useful.

Survivability expert is NEVER worth it on a BB. That simple. 2800 health is about a 5.6% health increase, it's negligible, it's less than a single penetrative hit.

MCAA is not worth it unless you already have AFT as it only helps your DP guns.

T5 jack of all trades to massively speed up those consumable reloads or CE are the way to go. Preventative maintenance does not do nearly enough to be worth it and manual secondary control is a waste of 5 skill point on USN BBs, there are a dozen different better uses for 5 points than that.

Dependent on what flags you have equip the dreadnought, and fire reduction flag. sierra mike is an extra knot of speed, it's not worth it if you aren't rolling hundreds of them. The AA flag is useful, but many players like me don't have many because they made clear sky almost impossible without a CV, BFT is much easier to get, permanent, and also helps your secondaries. Secondary flag is useful especially with AFT. Credit flags you should do based on your own needs. I only run IJIAF flag on T8 plus.

Premium heal and repair are a must, premium plane is a waste of 22.5k credits, spotter plane is useful if your AA is good, but fighter plane stays up for 6 minutes to spot torps and protect you from planes.

Yes, she angles well but she can't bounce with her bow, so be careful, the good news is she's tough to citadel compared to her IJN rival. Her guns are punishing at any range, but get better and better as you get closer.

What I described is how I've spec'ed out my Colorado and how I use her and I've found that it works for me. Don't believe me? Check my Colorado stats on Warships.today.

I don't generally post but the Colorado is my favorite BB. First thing first save enough free XP to get the B hull. I tried the A hull and it is unplayable even if your top tier. Get the range up next with the Plotting Room mod 1 and suggest AA survivability mod in the first slot because your AA is unprotected and you will bleed HP because of HE hits, rudder mod is a must along with damage control. The captain skills 1Sherman are exactly what I run and I have no complaints.

After you get B hull get the engine upgrade followed by range upgrade and then finally C hull. I decided to take Plotting Room mod of at that point and went with AA range upgrade and went full AA build because after the first few minutes I find myself well within main battery range anyways and rarely needed the extra range and if I did I used the spotting plane. Lately I switched from AA range upgrade to secondary range upgrade, the Colorado uses 5"/51 and 5"/38 secondaries which are allot better than the latter DP and while they don't do allot of damage they do at a nice amount of fires.

Best way I found to play is pick a side of the map and go, your going to have to push with the cruisers and protect them but if they start to turn, go with them and you have to be aware when they do that because if you wait to long you will die. Learn to use the WASD hax because since you will be near the front line DDs will target you. I found angling at 30 degrees to enemy fire will protect your citadel, don't go bow or stern on because they will over match and can hit your citadel. Focus on Cruisers first, you can tank allot of damage from other BBs but like I said your open AA batteries will bleed HP from HE fire plus cruisers become very dangerous later in battles because they can dictate a fire with their vastly superior speed and maneuverability.

Also keep in mind you are losing 25% of your guns coming from the NM so proper aim is even more important, don't be afraid to hold your fire till the enemy turns or even pick a different target that's sailing. Use your mini map, everything is faster than you from this point on so you have to adjust to the situation instantly because failing to do so will net you 0 damage games or get you sunk

Personally, after a very short time, i sold off the CO.

It was sssooo slow to turn, reload, etc that all i did was watch other team players make kills.

I nicknamed the CO "The Best Ship to Watch the Rest of Your Team Make Kills In."

Here's what I plan to do:

While I play more games to get the credits to purchase her, I will also stockpile Free XP to use to get the upgraded modules.

I can (and will) use one of the BB captains which I have in my reserves. Dang it. Did a check to realize I dismissed all the BB captains from the US tech branch. Gonna have to train up another one. (I'm using my SC captain for the NM, BTW.)

For the first skill, I'm probably gonna get BFT first, then save up for BoS, then EM.

As far as modules go, I'm gonna take Main Armaments I, then Plotting Room I. Then see what works best from there.

On my New Mex, I fly IBT, MYS, Z, PP, and ID. From time to time, I fly JC and HY. (I use the detonation flag for my DDs.) I will use that setup, or whatever good flags I lay my hands on.

For consumables, I don't have a large pocket, so I don't use premium consumables all the time. I might use the upgraded DC or DR consumables, when I have them. But as a general rule, I tend to hold on tight to my money, and will do so at this time.

When I'm in a USN BB, I tend to take shots from further out at first, then follow the team in and take things from there. If there's anything I can do to improve that, let me know.

If you can throw out anything else that I might be able to take as useful advice, let me know.

Thanks!

Like all BBs, Colorado deletes CL/CAs with a passion. Do it early and often.

Shoot at/kill DDs whenever you see them. I find charging the smoke exhilerating.

Angle...Angle...Angle.

Premium Damage Control and Repair Party are a must. You're going to be in the thick of it and will be on fire more than a stuntman.

Watch the minimap. Your team will desert you. Plan ahead for an escape route. If that fails, look for the best path to roasted glory.

Look for the broadside target. You might not get a citadel, but 16-17k salvos add up quickly (well, 30 secs at a time quick).

Tier 7 and 8 Kraut BBs have have torps. You will encounter them often.

You will get tossed into Tier 9 battles. Look where the Iowa is and act like you don't see her. If you're lucky, she'll do the same. Also, look out for torp walls.

+1  I don't have the Colorado yet in the live server, but had the pleasure of sailing her around quite a bit in the public test ones.  What was recommended above is concise, practical, and effective (to me, at least, based on my limited experience), and was fun to read and re-read.
