Ever since I put advanced fire training on my Bogatyr I have been slaying everything in sight. Yesterday in 21 games I averaged 64k damage dealt. Anyone else been taking advantage of the longest range tier III guns?

Yes, great ship at its tier when you need some protected cruiser fun. I don't have AFT yet but that is the plan so I can outrange everything.

The Bogatyr is an absolute monster that seems painfully overlooked by the similar st.Louis.  What it lacks in gun caliber is compensated with smaller profile, speed, handling, and longer range.  I almost think it doesn't need preferential matchmaking.......

The Bog is fun for showing those silly tier 5's a thing or two about a thing or two...at least it used to. Now it gets to show all those tier 4's a thing or two about a thing or two. :teethhappy:

You know what's even better than a bog with AFT? A bog with AFT and Demolition Expert.

When I went up the RU Cruiser line long ago, I skipped my way to get Kirov right away.  So I missed out on playing Bogatyr until a few days ago when I bought her.  I elected to go with 130mm and stuffed a spare cruiser captain with AFT+DE.  This turns Bogatyr into, IMO, one of the best low tier ships in the game.  She's flimsy but her capacity to hit targets reliably and set them ablaze is dangerous to anyone, BBs and DDs most especially.  13.6km range is no joke for a Tier III.

I'd imagine however that for most players, the potential of Bogatyr will never be realized.  AFT and DE are Tier 4 skills and some new player with a new RU captain isn't going to have that at Tier III when starting this line.

Anyways, all I can see is that with a good points captain, Bogatyr is a dangerous beast.

We were losing that match at first because of a colossal collapse very early when 2 of our northern ships retreated, weakening our once 5 ship north group to retreat after them, allowing the enemy to grab cap A & B very early.

It was with great satisfaction that the retreating DD and Cruiser from north group were the first to get sunk as enemy DDs sank them in the vicinity of B or in the east channel.  I shed no tears.

A "Bravo Zulu" to our surviving DD.  He was part of the north group and he screened the retreat of our 2 northern BBs south in the eastern channel, so none of them got sunk by the enemy DDs.  He then helps in sinking those DDs and caps B on his own with almost no support and holds it.  This was extremely important because all of us down south had our hands full.  Their Clemson knew what he was doing.  I wanted to help our DD in B but the enemy BBs and Clemson down south were too much of a problem so I had to help south instead.  Our DD held B long enough until we won down south.  By holding B on his own, he prevented the enemy BBs from up north to help out down south.  By the time our DD was pushed out of B and was nearly dead, we arrived to stop the cap and finish this match off with a comeback.

Bought her again last night to have another ship with the Imperial ensign of St. Andrew.

With all the brits around it was a good time.

I shudder to think what will happen when her captain gets DE.

What the opinion on gun choices for this bad boy?

152mm seems the stronger choice for higher HE damage (2400 vs 1900)..but the bonuses for guns of 130mm or less might off set that?

I have tried both and the 152s seem more consistent...if you're firing purely HE...AP doesn't seem a big diff between the two though the 130mm appears to have better shell velocity....though not 100% on that.

Almost done the grind...so kinda irrelevant..but seems an interesting choice.

Thoughts?

Range.  With Advanced Firing Training, the range for the 130mm is 13.6  vs 11.4 for the 152mm.

The only drawback of the extra range is the high arc of your shots. Can take a little to get used to but once you learn how to aim it's a great fire starter.

BFT and AFT buff the 130mm guns of Bogatyr.  Give her DE and she is a one-ship-wrecking-boat.

Battleships?  Cruisers?  Destroyers?  They are all equal targets in Bogatyr's sights.

The arc is much much easier to deal with than other guns in the same weight class. They're more or less destroyer guns. They shoot pretty damn flat for destroyer guns.

Decided to take a break from high tiers so I bought Bogatyr (free xpd through it initially) and put on my spare Russian captain with DE. Results are fantastic. Really why everybody consider St Louis best seal clubber? It's not even close to this ship. A lot of fun and signals.

Will probably keep it indefinitely. Wonderful ship.

The St. Louis hits harder and has better armor. In a straight up gun fight within its gun range the St. Louis is a fair match for it. It possibly has a slight advantage.AFT and knowing how to use the ship are what tip the scale in the Bog's favor.

Agree. St L should be better and more forgiving ship for novice while Bog is a better choice if you have experience and want just to have fun at low tier. Why is St L often hailed as a best choice for experienced players that's what I don't understand.

St Louis was clubbing seals long before the Bogatyr was in the game. It's a classic in that sense. It's also pretty well armored with a ton of guns for its tier.
