Just got the Des Moines and cannot get enough points to overcome damage assessment so I am losing points.

 

Can anyone suggest the best strategy for using Des Moines in Coop battles.

By "points" you mean credits?  If so, this is by design.  You need to play lower-tier battles to make enough credits to pay for playing your high-tier ship.  WG does this intentionally to make sure there are people playing the lower tiers.

Co-op at that tier won't yield enough credits to make it profitable unless you kill practically everyone and do tons of damage.

I would suggest don't play co-op. In co-op you earn much less credits and XP.

Coop is a huge credit sink at high tiers. Not recommended at all

Don't play it for the credits. Play it b/c it's fun and you don't have to rely on all the BBBBads.
