Heavy Weather/New gamemode: Survival

So as it currently stands, the way I see the current Cyclone mechanic, the storm itself is really just a squall. Nothing more and nothing less. However it is a step in the right direction for implementing weather. I think that we should see harsher weather, the sort that tests captains, makes them push their seamanship to the limits. You know, storms with 7 meter high waves or bigger, gale force winds, the rain coming down so heavy all you have is just dead reckoning. This could actually be a new game mode called survival, because you have to last x amount of time going through the storm. It would provide a different sort of thrill more than anything. Because sure it is fun to point big guns that make loud noises and shoot shiny things that make the bad guys go boom. However, sometimes you just want to test your seamanship skills in weather, become a true sailor because you have to keep your ship afloat in a storm.

People have enough problems when detonated, I'd imagine that the mechanic of weather sinking your vessel would cause even much more rage.

I understand the need to test one's seasmanship, but I feel like the game is good with where it's at as it's only an arcade game.

Oh right, forgot about the detonation problem, mainly because I have only been detonated like three times since the game has gone live. Still it would really love the ability to test one's seamanship.

Biggest problem is, there is no real seamanship in this game.  What would you do?  Just sit there and watch your ship bob up and down?  For 20 minutes?

No, the waves will be big white caps, to the point where a foul up would be punished by mother nature severely. Like, if you don't keep your bow pointed toward the waves and you catch one broadside on, well yeah,

I like the idea of more dramatic weather affecting game-play, but also even if it's only cosmetic.

Same.  I've suggested it before and will do so again.

Why not have 2-3 levels of storms, each having a different max view range?  Like a heavy storm with a max range of 12 km, moderate storm with a max range of 15-16 km, and a light storm with a max range of 20 km.  These storms would last the entire battle.

And it'd be cool if on maps in colder regions, the storms took the form of blizzards rather than rain storms.

That would be awesome.
