Was just in a game where we killed no ships and the enemy sank half of ours. The game ended with them capping halfway through the match. Everyone went their own way and we left the cap undefended. The lone BB who stayed to defend got teamkilled for being a [edited].

You wouldn't believe how much I'd love better teamwork. I'd love to see the end of trying to push forward to take a cap or close the distance on the enemies, only to be abandoned by my team and focused down like a (expletive) animal by the enemy team.

I've seen people being vocal about doing their own thing while the rest of the team has decided against it and proceeds how to move out of spawn I snicker at them as usually they are the 1st to die.

Teamwork...

Isn't that were you turn around to defend a cap because by all rights the rest of you team ought to be able to handle what they're going towards, and yet they still manage to all get wiped out anyway?

Or where you smoke up a friendly to cover them from getting shot, or where you fire ACROSS an ally, risking team damage, to kill that destroyer or cruiser that's about to torp him, or when you have a bang-up game as a CV driver, and could easily jump in and get the last few kills, but call off your planes so someone else can make the score?

Only real teamwork there will ever be is in divisions, something spontaneous because someone recognizes what someone else is doing is good, and should be supported, or occasionally as a result of some short chat note...

In the main though? Teamwork in this game is nothing more than something that happens accidentally because a bunch of player are together, don't communicate in any way, but somehow still manage to all work together...

Team work in random? "You're living in a dreamworld Neo....."

Never going to happen, WG went for a diverse population that is heavily casual and in most cases, will never see things the same.

I like teamwork more then happy to do it and actually last couple of days been put on decent teams where we have been working together and winning still takes some losses but defiantly doing better then I was lol.

Not going to happen, you can adjust the game's matchmaker all you wish, but its far more difficult to change the player base, especially for people who don't wish to change.

I'd love to see more teamwork but without full team voice chat it's almost impossible and voice chat in a F2P game would be a nightmare.

Imagine the screaming, it would burst peoples ear drums from the sheer volume of it.

BAHAhahahahaha.... You said Teamwork...

The way I look at it, there's a couple of types of "teamwork".

First, there's the highly organized type of team work that you'd see in team battles, where you'd probably have a caller, and team mates are expected to follow the callers orders (or be kicked from the team for failing to do so).

Second, there's the more disorganized type of hope and pray "teamwork" where you have to hope that a number of players are generally thinking along the same lines, but there's no actual caller or orders.  This style can be made to work (more or less) with some quick suggestions at the start of a battle, followed by reasonable use of the F3 button to call out targets.  I've generally found that if you have a team that really does want to win and is sorta trying to work together, they'll usually respond to F3 (shoot this target) requests.  And if they ARE responding to them, you can actually get some good focus fire going on.  But as I said above, it's a hope and pray style of team work because all you can do is hope that you get it, rather than no team work at all.

And speaking of  teamwork, sometimes you get people who are such anti-control anarchists that they'll throw a hissy fit at the merest suggestion in chat.  Yesterday, near the end of a battle, I pointed out to my team that I thought that the enemy's planes were coming from the NE with something very terse like "enemy CV in NE", or possibly even shorter.  I didn't order anyone, nor did I even suggest anything.  I just tersely pointed out that I felt that the enemy CV was in the northeast, nothing more.  But this was more than enough for a team mate to throw a hissy fit, thinking that I was ordering everyone around.  And no, it wasn't at all about any earlier chat messages from me, because I hadn't said a word in that battle to that point, other than maybe a "ty" (thank you) for a compliment made to me on a nice torp spread that sunk an enemy ship.

I mean, I can get not liking someone who gets all bossy and acts (in chat) like he thinks he's in command and that we're just his people to order around.  I occasionally push back on such a person, though not often since this sort of bossy player isn't that common.  But to throw a hissy fit over a simple observation that the enemy ship is in a certain area on the map?  That's just nuts.

Well, as long as you have a way to toggle the feature off all together, it should be fine to have.

I suppose that division chat would be OK.  And chat for teams in team battles should be OK as well (for those who aren't already using a 3rd party solution).

But I agree that chat for pubs or ranked battles would be a nightmare.  There's be the ragers and there'd be trolls who would flood chat with their music, and so on and so on.

Teamwork is a dream in this type of game, even the effort of communicating in a significant way is not really possible, not enough time only serves to distract so aside from the primitive basic hot keys (yes/no/negative etc) ther's experience and observation to guide you by, some players will respond however and make those your friends invite them next you play and that will help build your "team"

Teamwork will only ever work through clans, where pre-start tactics and assignments can be determined.

Until then, this is a solo, online-multiplayer.

Yes, but the game is structured to prevent it. Good teamwork would result in longer, more hard fought, more satisfying games, which WG does not want.

Divisioning is limited to only 3 people.

Capping splits teams into tiny groups that can't coordinate

Split spawns like Strait, Trap, and Hotspot break up teams into tiny groups for high ship death rates and quicker collapses

Maps like Shatter and Two Brothers break up teams into tiny groups for high ship death rates and quicker collapses

Differing ship speeds make it difficult to coordinate play

Some ships, especially US standard BBs, are so slow that early errors in their positioning cannot be rectified in a timely manner

The RNG-based nature of the game means that small differences quickly accumulate into major collapses by one side, rendering teamwork pointless.

YOLOing is absolutely necessary in the mid/late game because individual ships must grab caps

XP is awarded for individual play, not team play. No XP is given for vital activities such as spotting, supporting, escorting...

Though there is a strong element of willful stupidity -- way too much of "you are not the boss of me" and stubborn refusal to do the smart thing even when it is repeatedly pointed out -- people are too quick to blame other players. The game is constructed so that teamwork is difficult and does not pay off for individual players. Hence, individual players do not learn teamwork, and cannot be made to engage in it, because the payoff is so low.

Better Teamwork™ is slated to be sent out for supertesting next patch.  Expect to see it on the next one after that.

they really need to add XP and credit bonuses for team play.

like doing damage while near 2 other friendly ships

or shooting down planes that were attacking another ship

and laying down a smoke screen that masks a damaged ally

just off the top of my head. things like that would really help, imo. some people need selfish incentives to be unselfish.

that is the problem with teamwork, you dont get a reward for any of that, shooting down planes earns you next to nothing, using aircraft to keep DD's spotted for easy kills earns you nothing, scouting ahead and spotting targets for BB that sit in the back gets you nothing, its all about XP and cash and until you actually give some kind of incentive for people to work as a real fleet, its every man for himself in most games. Get some friends in the Div and get on TS or something, that is the only way you see teamwork.

The last couple of days have been remarkably brutal for me.  My W/L ratio over that period has been horrendous.  I've heard people complain about losing streaks but haven't experienced such a brutal one in a year and a half until now.  Sometimes we lose because a couple of morons do stupid things (YOLO'ing) and die, but many times it just seems RNGesus dooms us to failure.  I have derp'ed and been the first to die, and I have carried a heavy team on my shoulders to defeat, but the losses just keep stacking.  Yeah, I can jump in a Nikolai, Kamikaze or a low tier ship and carry a win, but when I get back into regular play the losses return.  I have been low tier most of the time.  I just can't seem to catch a break and knock myself out of this losing funk.

I hate to blame my team, but WOW, have I seen some stupid $h!7 in high frequency the last couple of days!  :(
