I took an Alaskan cruise last fall. One of the excursions I took led us by boat to a humpback whale feeding ground, where they were preparing for departure to the deep Pacific. We saw dozens and dozens of whales, many of them surge feeding on the surface. Some of them came to within feet of our boat. Magnificent, awe-inspiring creatures.
