First time i realized today the Gnevny gets six km added when she fires her main guns. She has 4km torps. I've been playing her like a gunboat which I believe she is... so...

Is the six km a penalty for speed?

No, it's for making bright flashes and loud noises.

Gnevny is indeed a gunboat, as are the higher-tier RU DDs.  But stealth is not their strong point - being able to shoot accurately from long range and nimbly avoid return fire is the idea.

Part of the reason the Grem is OP and won't be sold again is because her detection while firing is 10.6km while having an 11km firing range

Well.. it just seems a tad OP to extend the visibility range almost exactly 6km... I checked IJN and USN at the same tier and they are roughly 3.5 or so... welp... nobody can call the ship OP to my way of seeing it...

If you play her aggressively, you are going to easily be detected by an awful lot of red. Guess that works out, like, "No need to go find them, they'll come find me."

Update: Considering the post on her great guns - and knowing she's quick - i went back out with her. She's fun :-)

It was added after they realized the 130 mm soviet guns were over-performing.

With their flat trajectory and 870 m/s muzzle velocity setting them apart from the higher rof, but slower muzzle velocity(792 m/s) and higher arced USN 5"/38s, gun bloom was increased for balance reasons.

It's that way with all soviet dds with the 130 mm/50 B13, from the Storozhevoi on through to the Udaloi.

EDIT:  Sorry, except for the Gremyaschy.  That's why she's considered so good.  Aside from the the usable torpedoes, she has the excellent Soviet DD guns, but with standard gun bloom.  That's what makes her such a sought after ship.

I should also mention the Anshan, being a Gnevny class destroyer in all respects save AA and torpedoes, also has the increased gun bloom.  Just fyi. :honoring:

Russian Destroyers are "Loud & Proud."  And I quote:

Stronk Soviet Destroyer does not play capitalist game of hide and go sink. With strength like Soviet Ox and guns like Fascist machine gun it stands tall so everyone can see strength of the Soviet People.
