at least fix this aspect of Detonations

This has to be a bug. For the third time I have managed to Detonate a Hindenburg using Moskva's HE. I am pretty sure that HE of any caliber should not be capable of reaching the magazines of a high tier cruiser.

 

I don't have a screenshot of the event itself, but I have a shot of the battle result. 51,346 damage from a mere 17 HE shell hits is impossible for Moskva, especially since Moskva's HE cannot reach Hindy's citadel. So why in the hell is its HE magically capable of reaching the magazine. I don't know if this is a bug specifically related to hindenburg, as I haven't done it to any other high tier cruiser with Moskva or any other cruiser, or if its a screwball detonation mechanic, because a shell should have to reach a magazine first to cause a det. And keep in mind, this is the third time I have done it, and i have only had 36 games in the Moskva so this hasn't exactly been a rare event. Has anyone else experienced this screwball event or something similar?

Hitting *any* module with ammo has a chance for detonation.  AA gun?  Secondary?  These have magazines, and an HE hit to any of these modules can result in a small chance for detonation.  And if the chance is as low as 1 in 200, that could mean a Moskva could easily do it once a game.

Fairly certain only the main caliber guns have magazines modeled in the game, but given that I doubt a 47mm AA gun would be able to detonate with such force as to sink the ship.

Hitting *any* module with ammo has a chance for detonation.  AA gun?  Secondary?  These have magazines, and an HE hit to any of these modules can result in a small chance for detonation.  And if the chance is as low as 1 in 200, that could mean a Moskva could easily do it once a game.

 

It doesn't seem logical that hitting an AA gun or a secondary and blowing up its ready ammo supply would produce a sufficiently powerful explosion to blow up the entire ship.  It seems to me that the only logical places you could get a sufficiently powerful explosion would be from:  a) hitting a torpedo launcher and detonating the torps within, b) hitting the magazine for AA/secondary gun ammo, c) hitting the magazine for main gun ammo.  I'm not really sure that there's any other place where there's a sufficient amount of ammo that a shell's explosion could produce a truly ship destroying level detonation.

 

Now, I will say that on some weakly armored ships, like DD's, a shell explosion in one place may be potent enough for the blast effect to REACH one the above mentioned full detonation risk locations and then cause the full detonation.

I'm pretty sure hitting torpedo tubes can cause detonations too.

 

Heck, Historically, a Mogami class cruiser, The Suzuya was destroyed from a miss, which detonated her torpedoes.

Only main battery turrets have modeled magazines.  Torpedo tubes, as I recall, have a low chance to inflict detonation if they're incapacitated or destroyed - not sure if whether they're loaded or not affects this.

it does not. Any module can pop a detonation as they are all indirectly connected to the magazine space, which is inside the magazine citadel space.

 

AA guns, torpedo tubes, main battery turrets, and depth charges are all connected this way and damage to any of them has a small chance of causing Detonation, which grows as more modules are damaged and the Magazine itself loses HP.

 

That's the running theory courtesy of the dataminers who discovered the connection from these modules to the magazine space on every ship.
