Yesterday a new guy who was less than a week into the game was talking about how they were going to kill the game and he had watched videos and none of them showed tier 6s beating tier 8s. Here ya go.

Get's a Kraken in his Arizona facing tier 8 ships.

Arizona isn't particularly good against higher-tier ships, especially BBs. Props whenever people make stuff happen against +2 in general. It's an uphill battle, but not an impossible one.

Well I am not sure about the validity of this claim I have seen a lot tier 6's destroy tier 8's in games.  It depends on who is at the helm of said ships.  If said captain...knows his ships strengths and weaknesses, knows how to keep an eye on the mini-map, and knows basic game mechanics he can easily kill a ships within 2 tiers of him.  Some players one here are so darn good I think they could take down ships three or four tiers different they are just that darn good.  Now I am not saying it is easy.  You need to know your ship and know how to run it.  In my New Mexico/ Warspite I do not shy away from tier 8  battleships if I meet them I angle in and try to force the brawl.  I do pretty good with this.  NOTE:  Do not close and try to brawl with a Tirpitz..it ends badly what with torps and all. lol.  I will also tackle higher tier cruisers in a Cleveland or Budyonny whenever I need to.  It is all down to the Players skill and knowledge.  Trust me run into one of the super testers in a game when they are lower tiered and get cocky...you will swim home.

One of the things I like most about WoWs is that I never feel outclassed by higher Tier ships.

Unless you played a CV before 5.9 and were faced with a carrier 2 tiers higher than you

Considering me in my Tirpitz and a North Carolina were hammering away at an Arizona, and it didn't sink till I finally got in torp range and it had basically no health left, so we killed each other. And I've hit that thing with 3-4 torps from a Hiryu and it shrugged them off, it's pretty damned good in my book, wish I had been able to get one.

I've been reliably penned by one while bow on in my NC while repeatedly bouncing AP off a nearly full broadside at less than 10km.

Thats because the Citadel on the Arizona is the most armored citadel in the game. You are better off aiming a little higher or for the bow or aft.

No way to know for sure without a replay, but it sounds like you were hitting the belt at a very sharp angle, whether by aim or dispersion. That pretty much doesn't work on any battleship, regardless of tier. However, T7 and T8 guns reliably overmatch the bow, deck, and aft armor, making any shot toward the barbettes or front bulkhead (if bow-on) easy damage. Assuming you don't get RNG'ed, of course.

Even if you hit the belt flat on at 90  you will have issues penetrating.

Anecdotally, I find that feasible, but do you happen to have an armor reference? I'd like to find out more but can't find a decent one online (and the one you linked above is for the New Mexico -- are they the same sans ends and deck?).

I believe they are the same but you would need to confirm. I dont have the Arizona layout unfortunately.

Alright, thanks. Regardless, I think we made the same point: aim higher toward victory.

Sorry but T6 BB's against T8 BB's is generally a paddling.  The problem being the BB gun upgrades at T7 can shred T6 BB's, even when angled (0.5.9 has helped this a bit for USN BB's).  When I was in the Kongo I couldn't wait for the Fuso, until I played my first battle where I was low tier and I got wrecked simply because my armor could not handle 410MM shells.

I think the difference in tier for DD and CA is less because:

1) any CA can get wrecked by any BB T5 and above

2) I believe that being a good CA player is much more about the actual player than it is the ship

3) Because DD health does not change drastically, the tier differences overall don't make huge difference (I believe all USN DD's T6 and above have the same guns)...like the difference between a Mutsuki and a Hatsuharu is minimal, Mahan and Benson differences are minimal.

This is probably the main reason WoWS is so much better than WoT. Bottom tier ships in the game aren't screwed by having half the HP of top tier ships. Lower tier ships actually have a chance. Seriously I could deal with the gold rounds and the arty but I couldn't take being at such a massive disadvantage when the MM decided to put me in the bottom. Plus there is that retarded thing called scout matchmaking for light tanks which essentially bumps them up a tier even though they have the least amount of HP of any other tank class.

WoWS is far superior in terms of MM and whenever I see someone complain about being bottom tier I tell them if they don't like it, try WoT:trollface:

Not that surprising, I sunk a Tirpitz in my Cleveland some times ago. It's not the ship, but the player itself that define the battle. Bad players could lose even if he/she is in a tier x ships.

And I've taken out a Yamato with a Hipper, Tirpitz and burned one damn near to the ground with a Nola.

All about how you play it.

My son has all but given up WoT due to the 2 tier MM....he constantly railed about it...now he plays League of Legends
