1,363 [HYD] Aduial Members 7,105 posts 5,289 battles Report post #1 Posted August 4, 2016 Yeah. I won't be playing the game starting today. Here's why. Specs of doom: CPU: 2.3 Ghz-dual core RAM: 2 GB GPU: Integrated. I think that pretty much sums it up. Yeah, my 6 year old laptop just can't handle it anymore...... When i first started this game back last year, my computer could actually run at 40 FPS on low settings, while having chrome and Word running in the background. I was happy with that. But recently, nothing works right. The FPS has dropped to 25, and there's so much stuttering that i find the game unplayable. And then there's the constant disconnection and crashing. I can't stand my stats dropping like crazy thanks to crashing so much, and i don't want people to lose games because my game crashes. I think the reason is that the constant heat (my laptop has a non-existent cooling system) has caused my CPU and RAM to be degraded, hence the massive drop in performance. Well, it was fun while it lasted. So this is goodbye..... until i can get my hands on a better computer. Adios! I will still hang around on forums though....

Do not say goodbye until you have done/tried the following: 0. Clean out your fans if you can. If not, buy a laptop cooling pad. They can help a LOT. 1. Uninstall/delete all space hog files (videos) and/or programs that you don't need/use. 2. Download CCleaner and perform a clean. 3. Use CCleaner to do a registry scan and fix (back up changes to registry and fix all errors). Do this several times till u get nothing. 4. Defragment the hard drive. 5. Download and install SmartClose. Run it before playing WoWs. Once finished, do a restore. You'll squeeze some extra performance out of your CPU. I've tried most of the things above, (haven't tried 5, but i've tried the Razor cortex boost) but really, sometimes you just can't deal with outdated hardware. I don't think the minimum hardware requirements of this game have gone up since launch. If your machine could handle it then, it should be able to handle it now. Old laptops tend to overheat very easily, and my laptop is a perfect example of that. Even when sitting idle, it runs at roughly 50 degrees Celsius. That heat obviously won't be good for the CPU and RAM.

Because you do get a new copy of the OS, right?

But i do need my device to be mobile, so i'm probably gonna get a new laptop in the future (whenever that might be, certainly not any time very soon). But most modern laptops can handle most games, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If you have any type of tech skill, find a good tutorial on your particular laptop's disassembly process for cleaning it. Before it gives up the ghost, clean it. Properly. Thoroughly. You can also get software to monitor internal board temps too...run it before you clean and after you clean. Many older laptops have the cheapest com boards you could get at the time the laptop was released. They cannot take advantage of faster data throughput because they were not designed for it - they are hobbled to a degree. You can get one that is capable of much faster coms for hmm... $30 I think. They're easy to replace in most laptops by opening a panel. Finally, when you are cleaning it, make sure - if you have removable RAM - to remove it, clean it and reseat it. And if you are on a budget... there are some pretty decent, modern laptops which would likely keep you going for a couple more years. But remember... they will only push the bar so high, so fast because a good deal of their player base is running a computer probably a lot like yours..
