What happened to CV MM?

I noticed a couple weeks ago it was planned for CV to get preferential MM for essentially all tiers. However, I looked back at the 5.9 patch notes and saw this:

  • tier I-IV ships and tier V aircraft carriers: will see battles with opponents only one tier higher

  • tier V+ ships: will see battles with opponents two tiers higher

Why did they do that? It's not like tier V or tier VI carriers can easily go up against ships two tiers higher than them. In fact I had a tier VIII battle recently with a Ryujo on both teams. Ignore my results, just focus on the CVs on both teams...

They didn't do very well, and most of their planes were shot down.

So, why did WG decide to not give CVs higher than tier IV preferential MM? I didn't play the 5.9 test server, so I am honestly curious...

Tier V CVs are getting better mm, it's Tier VI that aren't.

It said in the official patch notes that tier V CVs will also get +2 MM

Was one of those CVs in a division? That'll screw MM up entirely.

No

Not sure what the perceived issue is. Tier V+ will see +2 MM. You had a a Tier VI in a Tier VIII. That's two tiers higher.

The thing is a post stated that nearly ALL carriers will only see +1 MM, yet this is +2 MM. I'm just wondering why they changed it from what it was originally planned to be (Maybe something to do with the test server?).

Ah, now I see.

I have no clue. I recall reading that as well.

I heard that WG planned to do this but then they had second thoughts because some carriers could hold their own against +2 tier ships, but it was higher tier CVs would go against low tier ones, which is why there are no more 4 CV high tier matches

Those Ryuujos need to learn to adapt to the game and learn to play.

I dunno, most of the ships on both teams save the DDs can chew up the tier 6 planes

-insert CinemaSins guy laugh at clearly funny joke-

Yep, tier 6, 7, and 8 totally hold their own against ships two tiers higher, thats why anytime I attack one save for maybe certain DD's, I tend to lose most, if not all my planes, despite building everything I can into giving them the ability to survive. Thats why tier 6 and 7 still have to face each other in 4 CV matches where tier 7 still gets the upper hand. Oh right, there is ONE ship that can hold it's own against tier 9 ships a bit better.

The [removing expletives] Saipan because IT HAS TIER 9 AIRCRAFT. Part of why I said that putting the ship at that tier, with those planes, was an idiotic idea. Hell, my Lexington's DB's can barely survive Iowa's AA when it's on my own. My Hiryu it's basically pointless to attack cause best case scenario is I get 1-2 torpedo's in the water, and I sold my Ranger well before the AA buffs with how bad it was against tier 9's. Independence or Ryujo against North Carolina? yeah, that ALWAYS ends well with me holding my own against it - in a parallel universe where CV's have not been nerfed into the ocean floor and were all probably mustache twirling villains.

Seriously, are they playing/looking at the same game/build we are because I  want this apparent fantasy build where I can use -2 CV's and not lose so many planes I end up basically useless after 2 failed attacks when the only other ship my tier is THE OTHER DAMN CV.

you cant adapt when AA is broken OP at tier 8 and youre still tier 6.

This all stems from when this game went live in OBT.  A lot of people ground CV hard and CVs were routinely top tier based on population numbers in the rest of the ship lines. So you had tier 6 CVs beating up on tier 4 s without any AA.  These forums went nuts and the pitchforks were out.

Nerfs and changes happened.  Now Cvs are routinely bottom tier and cannot have a meaningful game experience as a result of that and all the changes.  Those around in OBT say either I told you so or too bad you are OP.

I will once again reiterate that CVs should just be removed from the game not because I hate them, but because WG cannot figure out how to make them work for all... I for one would like my money, XP and credits back since I have a tier 10 CV in port I can never get a match in.

I think the solution is obvious.

Hiryuu has the same TBs as Ryuujo, but goes up against T9s.

My Hiryuu does fine in T9. A Saipan concerns me more than being in a game with T9 surface ships.

It's a simple matter of picking your targets carefully, letting teammates HE spam the AA down, and working together. I've been bottom tier in CV before but looked for ways to contribute with what I had; sometimes being bottom tier gave me extra bragging rights because outplayed the other team. Haven't forgotten T7-9 matches on Hiryu and T8-10 on Shokaku where I played a role in my team's victory.

I just think T4-6 CVs can have it harder because their planes are slower, so cannot escape sudden AA as fast.

The RJ has one (and a half, almost) set of replacements for those TBs, the Hiryuu has more to spare. And the Independence has even less to work with.

What makes T7 CVs significantly better than T6 carriers is meaningful reserves.

In case I wasn't being obvious enough: Bully the destroyers. They don't have the AA to deplete your reserves, and a decent cross drop will wreck them.

There are also plenty of ships at that tier that don't have the AA to significantly deplete your reserves. Even the ones that do have that AA tend to die off or lose significant numbers of AA mounts as the game goes on.

The datamined MM changes were never official, and did not go live. WG pulled them because they said they weren't solving the problem (however they determined that).
