Is there any thought in to a Nigh Based Game.   and add the Amo Shell of Star Burst  (Flair Shell) to guns? or somthing like that.  Limit those to certan class ships ???

I thank a Night game would be fun.  has this ben descussed?  Any Thoughts.   Th2010805.  StrikeGroup805   on Twitch.tv

Night game would be worse than Typhoon as far as visibility goes. How are you going to defend against a DD that can close to point blank range before being spotted. Torpedoes don't have flashes when they are launched. If everyone has to fire star shells to spot things, then it is just a gun nerf.

DDs should be able to fire star shells, but all other ships should be allowed to have their secondaries fire either it's normal ammo type (HE or AP) or star shells

Their new video for the USS Little Rock sure makes it not only look possible but fantastic, I think it is only a matter of time before we see this implemented and again seeing it in this video makes me think it is right around the corner.

You know they'll implement a night battle mode eventually, if only so WG can show off those high tech, thermal sights :playing: the Soviet navy was tinkering around with back between the world wars :trollface:

Trident and Northern Lights mapping give us a hint of dusky skies...so I see no issues at all in the developers tweaking the brightness/contrast of the skies to give us a dimmer view of things.

 

Couple that with the occasional cyclones or mere rainy seasons and we have the beginnings of night missions right here already.

 

Now to add some momentary illumination for close engagements...and we're set.

 

Woe is the skipper dodging torpedoes in the dark.....

Not a fan of how dark the display gets on Trident and during typhoons. It's honestly quite hard to see ship profiles against the water when playing a carrier, and when firing at long ranges.

 

Yes, I get that that's realistic and all, but all it really makes me want to do is turn up my gamma and brightness so everything looks like crap but I can play better. That's not a good way to do things.

It's an option you have to enable..

 

Once battle starts..  turn your monitor off and don't turn it back on till the end music comes up.  Instant night battle  :hiding:

 I doubt that most of you would be happy with the result, night action has been talked about in WOT and even tried  except for cool gun flashes it was a mess and quickly shelved, don't think this will be different.

I'm really surprised nobody seems to realize the Typhoon mechanics pretty much perfectly depict how night combat would happen in this game.

Steel Ocean has them.  I found them to be really stressfull.  Nothing like having an Aoba sneak to within 3km and torp you.

Not an issue for the USN and that little thing called "Radar", it doesn't care what hour of the day or night it is.  :teethhappy:

For 30 seconds out of every 4 minutes. Great! Get 8 people in a battle with a radar-equipped ship to use it with perfect precision, you can see a 10 KM radius.

Don't get your hopes up any time soon. WG EU answered this recently in their community questions post.

Q: Will we have night battles with specific mechanisms (launch flares instead of planes, used lights, diminution of view range...) in a special mode?

A: Right now we are working with the Cyclone and weather effects and checking their influence on gameplay. Night battles would bring a whole new host of technical challenges – so they are not in short time plans.

Pretty much for the concealment, but there would be key differences. Normal firing detection, searchlights, star shells, aerial target marking, etc., not to mention the cinematic aspect. I'd love to see it eventually.

The Typhoon mechanic basically is night combat.

 

This is how I would implement it at first.  Darken the sky like on northern lights, turn on cyclone mode permanently.  Atlanta would love this mode.
