If you haven't seen it yet, check out the new video posted on the WOWS homepage in the Naval Legends series.  This new video is about the history and specs of the Cleveland class.  It's EXCELLENT.

Great photography and editing and historical content.  More of these type videos would simply thrill the historical nerd faction in this game (of which I am a charter member.....LOL).

Great job WG!!!!!

Well, the superintendent does say that CL are classified based on armament and weight, and says how the Little Rock is a CL because it's light and has 6-inch guns, but other than that it's nice.

"She has the only six inch guns left in the entire world"

HMS Belfast appears to have quite a few of those as well...

And BAP Almirante Grau, formerly HNLMS De Zeven Provincien, which is still in active service.

Maybe they meant only US made ones?

What surprised me was that the Cleveland class ship literally bristled with armaments....It was floating arsenal...

  • 4 × triple 6 in (150 mm)/47
  • 6 × dual 5 in (130 mm)/38 caliber
  • 28 × 40 mm (1.6 in) Bofors guns (4 × 4, 6 × 2)
  • 10 × 20 mm (0.79 in) Oerlikon cannons
  •

For a light cruiser, this is an incredible amount of fire power.   Imagine this bad boy running into a destroyer or merchant convoy.....It could rip up alot of  metal in a hurry...

I'm sure he did. Should've said so though.

and that armament came about because of delays to the 6" DP gun intended for the Cleveland.

Originally, it was supposed to be 5x twin 6" DP turrets in an Atlanta like configuration.

I thought the reenactment and rendering of Battle of Empress Augusta Bay / Sea Battle off of Bougainville Island by WG was very impressive, even if it was short and not very detailed.

Details, like how Sendai's abrupt evasive action caused massive confusion further down the line and resulted in multiple collisions of friendly ships, or how even the USN force, with the upper hand in that battle, had multiple collisions between friendly ships too.

For KC fans, that's the battle that resulted in Myoko head chopping Hatsukaze.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see other naval battles recreated by WG, especially with more detail on the flow of the battle and what was happening to individual ships as well as the fleets as a whole. I know there are naval charts and drawings on maps of what happened, but a picture is only worth 1000 words. A video is worth a million.

I, for one, would love to see all of the Solomon Islands / Guadalcanal battles recreated, because I haven't been able to find any documentary that detailed the naval battle AND rendered them with excellent and stunning CG.

The closest one I have seen is Battle 360°, but that mainly focused on Enterprise and advances in naval aircraft.
