So my Amagi sits in my port as I took her captain off to put on the Yamato. As such I haven't tampered with it since prior to the module overhaul. My question is: does the Amagi still need Aiming Systems Modification 1? Her dispersion is already the lowest of the VIII BBs so would Secondary Battery Modification be the preferred alternative?

I have Amagi and Nagato (and Warspite) set up for secondary fire and it is frequently of very good use with 7.6 km range for both with flag.

Edit: What did you do on the Izumo and do you still have her?

Yh I figured secondary spec would be appropriate with the rarity of CVs around

So my captain is as follows...

I had a captain since the Nagato and would retain that captain for every proceeding ship excluding the Izumo which had her own capt. That captain has since been put on the Nagato since i usually keep 1-2 ships per tier. While the other is sitting on the Yamato

It depends how you use the Amagi.  I tended to use it as an opportunistic brawler, sailing bow onto a Colorado until we're like 2km away before turning and planting 10 16" shells into his broadside.  I only briefly use the Amagi as a sniper, until enough ships have sunk and pushing independently is viable.  A secondary specced Amagi can easily handle over-eager destroyers, but they don't really hit hard enough to worry cruisers (but the shower of lesser shells makes it harder for cruiser captains to dodge the main shells), and brawling with same tier Battleships tend to lead to heavy damage on both sides.  So I guess it depends if you like firing at range, or charging the enemy in the Amagi.  A secondary spec will allow the Amagi to preform well at all ranges, while lowering the dispersion will make it a dedicated sniper.

I play similarly with mine but I think I probably spend more time sniping on mine. I'll move from long to mid after a few enemies are down or they've spread their attention around and aren't focusing me (especially with a Yamato on the loose) but I won't push to a straight up brawl unless I'm sure I'm not going to be in a crossfire. My Captain is secondary spec, and when I am close enough Amagi's secondaries are pretty great. This is the Captain that'll end up on Yamato though, and while he's specced for secondaries, I have Amagi fitted for less dispersion rather than secondary range. Seems to be working well for me so far, or well enough at least.

I still use ASM1 mostly because the extra accuracy means I get more shells on target at standoff ranges, at least in theory.  I tend to be leery of brawling in the Amagi, partially because almost any other battleship will get inside your turn and thus you can't keep yourself angled indefinitely against their shells.

Not to mention that cruiser and even destroyer AP can citadel her at those ranges.

I still use ASM1.  The main battery is the strength of this fantastic ship and should be the focal point.  The secondaries are fine, but BFT/AFT is enough for me.

I find myself firing at fleeing cruisers a fair bit, ASM helps decrease the excess flamethrower population.
