Why?

  1. 1. Why do you play your tech-tree ships? (Pick 3)

    • I have fun with them
    • Grinding credits
    • Grinding free/elite xp
    • To progress up the tech tree
    • Seal-clubbing
    • Stat-padding
    • No reason
  2. 2. Why do you play premiums? (3 reasons)

Why do you play? Is it to grind? To have fun? To stat-pad?

You're leaving out a huge one.  Playing to win (because playing to win is fun).

Mostly I play the ships to have fun, because I find World of Warships an enjoyable game.  Tech tree ships I play to advance to further ships in the line and premiums I also use to grind credits and retrain my captains.  For the enjoyment is the most important, though.

Edit:  Typing in the early morning is not an option.  Fixed typos.

Fun/Progress/No reason (because I kept it and felt like it)

Credits/XP/Captains, though the last two are linked, as in XP for captains. I almost never convert, and then only as close to the exact amount I need. I also genuinely enjoy my premiums, even if I don't have the time or necessary priorities to play the lower tier ones very often.

One premium is peculiar - the Mikasa. It is a horrible ship. However, every time you sink an enemy with secondaries you get the flags that come with "Close Quarters Expert". If not for that, I would have dumped her already.

Despite occasional screaming at my computer over my own or perceived allied idiocy; there are times when the blood is pounding right before a perfectly executed ambush, or in a close fight, that make up for all the bad times.

'Seal Clubbing,' but with the proviso I don't specifically go out to do that, so much as I like using 'bad' ships like South Carolina and Wyoming and even New York and doing better in them that the averages listed on WST.

Premiums I mostly have been using for training lately. Though my Mutsuki captain with Torp Accel training in Kami R and Fujin made for great training in USN torpedo attacks. (TA + Minekaze clone = 5.6k torps.)

:hmm: I would think it obvious that winning = fun, which was one of the choices.:B

Disagree.  There are plenty of players who will proudly do utterly stupid ... stuff ... and don't give a rat's ... behind ... about winning.  And when you call them on it, they'll just say that they don't care about winning, they're just playing for fun.

So the fact that is that "playing for fun" is not the same thing as "playing to win because winning is fun".

Sorry, not happening.  I won't put myself in the same voting bucket as those "don't give a rat's behind about winning" losers.

When I first started playing, I was going to be a battleships-only guy.  When I owned both a Yamato and a Montana by November, I decided I'd give Russian destroyers and German cruisers a shot since they were also AP-centric playstyles.  That opened me up to enjoying the other ship types, and I just kept starting new lines as soon as I'd completed another one.  I found that I enjoy trying to be good at the game while still playing all sorts of different ships instead of specializing in a specific type or simply playing a ton of games in one favorite ship.  I've only truly skipped a handful of ships (pre-buff Yorck after 12 miserable games, Ognevoi in order to have Kiev in time for S2 Ranked, and a few low-tier cruisers to catch up to friends at tier 5).

I really enjoy this game, and there are only 4-5 ships that I really disliked playing.  Once I complete my hated Donskoi grind I'll have all the non-CV tier 10s, and I'm trying to get each of them to at least 100 games just to have the end-game experience if anything worthwhile for 10s ever comes along.  Maybe I'll do a bunch of 100-game tier 10 reviews or something.

I would watch those reviews.

And those CVs are waiting...

I gave CVs an honest try and got to 6-7 before calling it quits.  Playing a tier 6 CV in a tier 8 game is just misery IMO, and I didn't enjoy the inflexible Ranger options and the prospect of more of the same at higher tiers.  I also think I was a decent CV player, but wasn't as good in a CV as I am in any other ship type, so I felt like I brought less to the table.

If/when CVs get overhauled in the future I may try them again.
