Finally reached tier 5, and I got the Kirov!!!!

 

Are there any good guides to the Kirov? ANy vids? Anything???? All help/tips/advice is appreciated greatly

Congratulations !   Now work hard to get the Budyonny ; she is a really good ship . In my opinion better then the Kirov .

Good job! Hope you enjoy that ship much more than the guy who's currently complaining about it and requesting a personal apology from WG. And don't worry, the grind from Kirov to Moskva is only 22 times worse than the grind from Orlan to Kirov. ;)

I played back, and used my range (WHICH IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SVIET!!!!!!!!!) , and then when the enemy was starting to whittle down, I went in and sunk 2 destroyers with full he broadsides

Kirov is a second line support ship. Stay at range and use your range and shell speed to your advantage.dont show broadside, as usual and don't get into duels unless no other choice

Up to what range is the AP effective at penetrating?

 

Depends on the ship and the angle its at relative to you. Broadside cruisers that it faces? Probably almost any range you can engage at. Against BB's? Some tier 4's at short range broadside to you might get a decent chance of cits (ohai Myogi and Ishizuchi) but superstructure hits will feed damage at longer ranges. The guns are very punchy on the Kirov so it can throw up some surprising results for guns smaller than most heavy cruiser weapons. Also, don't be afraid to use HE on highly angled targets or BB's further out than spitting range. You already know to use HE against destroyers so that's already taken care of. Fire damage from HE is great for racking up the damage, especially against BB's.

 

Edit: To echo everyone above. Play the Kirov at range. Closing in against any kind of major force can end you unless you get the drop on them and can end them fast...like Devastating Strike fast.

I just did 9300 to kill a Shchors from 11km away, he was broadside though. They can go quite far.
