People seem to think that criticizing other players will get them banned come August 8 and are already jumping ship (kek). Guys: You'll get strikes for being openly offensive and/or using profanity at other players. I can say "Excuse me, but I think that this won't help the game" or "The stats you gave are incorrect" without being banned. All it will do is keep things civil. There are plenty of ways to argue without getting rowdy. Lawyers do it all the time.

Indeed!

Keep the arguments civil and there will be nothing wrong.

But if you act like a child raging whilst playing CoD well then, you can expect strikes.

As it should be.

You expect people to be civilized, on the internet? :D

The only problem I have is the permament  strike.

1 a year for 5 years and you can kiss your account goodbye.

The strikes have to come from support tickets.  Guess how many players know what that is?

The fear is probably that someone will take a small comment and report them for it. If it is like the ingame system, it doesn't matter what you say, if enough people report you in a set time frame, you get the ban.

Do players determine who gets banned? I mean, if it's by support ticket I doubt many people will be willing to go through all the trouble to harass one person.

I am pretty sure that WG checks this stuff, it's the check that is triggered by enough players reporting somebody. Besides, what are the chances of getting large number of players to report somebody for a small comment when we can't get 12 of those same players to act in a concerted manner during the match?

They are agreeing to let you royally screw up 5 times before a ban. Not minor infractions , not a one line pissed off remark , but going off on a repeated tirade.

If you can't avoid that less than 5 times after being warned each time , problem is you , not the rules.

I've simply come to the conclusion that most people are incapable of talking about something without using profanity and are unwilling to put in the time and effort to expand their vocabulary to find more civil words to use.

They check it when the support ticket is sent in.  In-game reporting still and always will do nothing.

Because it's hard to be nice.  Let's look at it:

- Being nice and constructive requires more effort than an impulsive, infantile tantrum thrown in the heat of the moment.

- Being nice even in the face of rage requires breathing control and patience; in through the nose, out through the mouth.  Repeat until calm and able to think clearly.

- Being nice requires respecting others opinions, even if you think they're more wrong than the worst person in history.

- Being nice requires more eloquence to get a point across without coming off as a jerk.

- Being nice requires learning the fine art of "how to be a gentleman/lady but eloquently smack down someone like a gangsta".

- Being nice requires showing more of your educational level by not resorting to calling people by the lowest common insults, and instead more creative ones.

And more.  So see, being nice is just too hard for some, hence them opting to bail out to places like Reddit or some other 3rd party forum where such toxicity is more likely to be permitted.

Not really, I got a chat ban from ingame a while back when I was in a really really bad mood. so the ingame reporting does work. (reason: got reported in game too much)

I'm not a lawyer nor do I enjoy talking like one. We're here for fun, so not all comments are going to be perfectly smooth and some people might occasionally take offense or be displeased. That's what life is like. However, because we don't know what the bar for the warning points is, for all I know next time I don't sound like a lawyer I get banned. Sorry, that's not my idea of a casual video game forum.

This. I've gotten 24-hour chat bans twice. Once by a trolldivision and once by a guy who, after he torped me (he was on my team), I told him to watch where he was torping. Admittedly, I need to watch my language, but I think "watch your [edited]torps" is at least semi-justified when someone torps me from .5 km away. I'll watch my language with the strike system as that one was probably strike-worthy, but the trolldivision just did it because I called them out for their own racist commentary.

In case you missed it, WG does have a rather vocal subset of players who lack the self-control to just not type...

They can't control themselves, so they believe they will be done regardless.

Don't forget this activity will go both ways... it is a two-way street... If some (as they call them here) "snowflake" is too easily offended and files ticket after ticket, they too would risk the Wrath of Mods and potentially earning a strike. It can - and probably will happen, to someone.

^this. This is why people are worried. From my experience with this sort of thing and gaming companies, I'm expecting strikes to either not come at all, or come completely without any sort of rebuttal of the person getting strikes. That's not cool either.

I don't know about you, but I only report people for after-match stalking and out-of-game threats. Otherwise people can say what they will, words can't hurt if they are not coming from someone in my life whom I care about.

I wish everyone was as considerate.

Because it's alot harder to lay down a far-reaching, harsh policy and offer forgiveness than it is to track and justify every permanent ban. They are attempting to partially automate the banning process. They could very easily target permanent bans on these people they say are "gaming the system", since they are aware that this is happening. Whether or not a strike is placed on someone's account is largely up to moderator discretion. They could easily look at a person's history of strikes and decide to ban them anyway. That's not easy as making the strikes permanent though, because it places the burden on the players to prove that they were given a strike or ban unjustly.

Yea my point was, make a frustrated remark or everyone's favorite "(insert ship class here" those hurt" to an upset player base enough and one person can drop 7 reports on you a game. personally I feel comments made towards the player you just damaged as being a poor sport, so I typical give response like that a misbehavior. I feel they don't need to be in the game.

Now do I think this system will be fully automated like in the game? No, I would imagine that if enough reports went in some one would hopefully review it before strike one goes out. But I am saying is that, people have odd emotions, and it won't take much for some to go off the deep end in frustration and report people repeatedly.

Being nice because I chose to be is one thing.  Being nice because of gestapo fears no, not right in the least.

How long will it be before things are brought in for PC reasons, or for voicing a view that is unpopular or counter to someone else's beliefs.  Look around there are entire lists of words that folks claim are "triggering" for others.

Heck my saying "Gestapo" for some would be a "trigger".
