My win rate today is like 10% and I have played probably 30 battles. I ground out all of the XP needed to go from Hiryu into tier 8. I survive 75-80% of the games and usually rock out with like 80-140k dmg done but for whatever reason I just cant win. I know I can (and have) googled some guides, but some are dated, others are garbage. Anyone have any tips, or recommended reading. I get its hard to ask for without dropping into a game and seeing what I'm doing wrong. The only real common factor between all the games is me being in the game in a CV.

I had a 8 loss streak in the ryujo with a 1300ish average WTR score.  Things like that just happen sometimes.

Playing CV is more than just farming tons of damage.  Target selection is a huge key to victory.  Be sure you're hitting the right ships that will encourage your team to play agressive.  Sometimes its best to hit a near dead target that your team is chasing so that they don't overextend or move too far from the effective zone of battle trying to kill it.  Maybe hitting the first cruiser you see in the front will help your team get the cap faster.  Or maybe you should single out that BB with 3 kills and murder him because he seems to be captained very well and is thus a huge threat.

You have to be very selective with your strikes.  try and keep the morale of your team in mind.  If you can take out the ships that they're scared of, then you've taken a huge burden off of your team

Playing CVs is an entirely different game from the other ship classes which is why many (myself included) do not play them. It's a top-down depiction of things with lots of micro-management. So get that clear at the get-go. Get a DD or a cruiser and try that out for the contrast.

To hard carry you have to basically hold your teams hand throughout the entire winning process. First, start off by striking at enemy DDs trying to contest the same cap points as your team. After they're death with, methodically destroy any isolated ship. Then, if your team is still f***ing up and behind on points, you gotta start killstealing, because your team sure as h*** can't finish off even the simplest target.

Just gotta get into that CV mindset.

Thanks, I have been purposely trying to not hit targets that are low in favor of 4-6 torps into something more full and setting the team up for the next target. I will try to knock out that guy they are all chasing and missing or the BB with 4 kills running straight into my team.

Look for threats to the cruisers/BBs that are not as threatening to you. Like a Battleship with low air defense. A great example is the Nikolai, a high-powered BB considered over-powered by some, but with poor AA defense. If I see one on the other team, its my primary target as a CV skipper.

But yes you as the CV represent the quick reaction force. If your team is facing a threat, like enemy ships sailing up an unprotected flank, or multiple DDs making runs on your unescorted BBs, you want to be the one to try and step in and do something about it. Because your planes can react faster than the ships can that are halfway across the map. Even if you don't sink the threat, maybe you reduce it, incapacitate it, or buy time for the team to respond.

Also little things like spotting DDs by flying over them, can help the odds of a team win.

But despite the power of a CV, you really are just one ship in a fleet. You can do everything right and still lose. But it is good that you aren't just blaming stupid teammates and are taking the introspective approach to this. Too often, too many people just blame someone or something else when the team loses, and assumes no responsibility for it.
