I like what they have done with the Atlanta and i think they have made it a very good ship.  The addition of radar this last patch helped me out a lot this past weekend locating all types of ships that were hiding not just the occasional DD.  I would love to have the smoke generator the Flint has but that would kind of make the Flint not as special.   I think if they could speed up the shell velocity just a touch it be good to go the rest of the way.   Its taken me over a 150 games in the Atlanta to properly learn to play it and numerous you tube videos LOL but for the first time i had several solid and consistent games in it that my team actually won.  Also the Atlanta has sweet spots on every map except ocean :(  which i feel is as equally important in knowing as the skills it takes to play her.   But it was not just me,  the whole weekend i seen Atlanta's out and about having very good games so could it be the Atlanta is making a comeback as players learn to use it better?

Atlanta was my favorite ship in Closed Beta.  I played her some ovcer thew weekend as well, and she will be back in my regular rotation . . . I love the addition of radar.  :playing:

It may well be. I have seen a lot more Atlantas out lately.

 

I like mine, and it is my most played cruiser, though not one of my favs for some time (may be back in my list at some point). I have not had a chance to test the radar yet.

 

True, Ocean is not the best suited map for it. A month ago, I got Ocean in Atlanta. The team moved up as a group with 6 ships on a push on the East side. BBs and CAs. I asked them to open a space and I moved in the middle of the circular formation, with ships front, back and at my sides, like a turtle. It worked great. I kept the rainbow up and the BBs go their shots. It was a win-win. Wish I had good teams like that more often.

Radar makes the Atlanta op vs dds trying to cap if a dd is in the radars range the Atlanta can hit it pretty easy.

Looks good.  I need to dust the old girl off a bit it seems.  I always had fun playing the ship just tended to be fast and furious games ending in fiery death for me and generally taking some along with me.  Recently I have been playing hell out of the Pensacola.  I researched it months ago but never bought it because of all the bad press I was reading in the forums.  Figured it was a crap ship.  She is  a hell of a lot of fun to play though.  I am glad I bought it, and have been having a great time.  Thin skinned but really not much worse than any other tier 7 cruiser, just stay angled and move a lot.  Guns are fantastic.  I stopped the US line at the Cleveland for months.  Been playing the German and Japanese lines up the scale

Atlanta is nothing to mess with now with the Radar.  I was having a pain trying to avoid it in a DD.  More people need to focus that thing.  Its soft as butter.

Ive found that the radar works good for any ship that becomes blocked by an island.  I Had a Tirpitz that disappeared from line of sight behind a island while i was sub machine gunning him to death with the Atlanta.  So i raced up to the backside of the island as the Tirpitz healed.  Now there were no DD's around so i used radar against the Tirpitz to see where he would come around and was able to get some torps lined up as he made his move around the island without him even knowing i was there.   Now i know that is not how radar should work but hey until they change it  use it for every situation.

First try after update I have to meet some reprobate with a beef against Atlantas. He's surrounded by enemies and won't last much longer so who does he shoot? The maneuvering Atlanta that's the fifth, sixth, or even the seventh furthest ship away from him...

 

Flip ever... Game was a win, but put me in such a bad mood I didn't even take the ship back out like I'll sometimes do when I get a poor performance during a first win.

I started playing mine again this past few days ... had one EPIC game and I agree - the changes are nice. Shell velocity is still a huge issue ... I get that it needs to be slower, but - damn. Stationary ships can drift out of the line of fire the shells take so long to get there. I have Advanced Fire Training - so I can hit out to like 14km or whatnot ... but unless the target is very distracted, I won't get many hits without widely dispersing my shells (and consequently doing little damage.)

 

So, it's better but still VERY situational ... but, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Some Atlanta games are frustrating, but the EPIC ones make it all worth while.

The Atlanta has come to a Renaissance for me. 

I was at my breaking point with the ship and gave it one final run with basically [edited]tactics.

I slapped against islands and fired over them 25/7 so I wasn't a target.

 

I'd lie and wait to appear next to a DD and utterly destroy them.

I'd sneak around and pop up point next to BBs and utterly wreck them.

 

I saw the "new" Atlanta Video, and found myself already on the same track. 

Throw in Radar and the buff to the turrets a few patches back and you have a very powerful ship in certain cases.

 

Now any DD within 8km is basically dead meat, and having most of your guns up most of the time, you can wreck planes all the time as well.

 

I always hated how the Atlanta could of gotten out played by a DD in smoke, even at closer ranges. With Radar that simply isn't the case anymore.

I can't care to much about the Flint. The slight changes are just flavor for the same ship. Both will be easy to kill targets that need to be smart about where they are and how they play.

I'd also rather have Radar than smoke on the Atlanta. Makes it the best counter to DDs at the tier hands down..

 

Now I have to wonder if they would give Radar to the Pensacola, as it's somewhat left out in terms of Radar capability, and its the actual line vehicle.

LOL, Atlanta Radar is only OP against Scrub DDs that are still creeping up into Knife Fighting Range of a CRUISER and won't leave.  Which is hilarious because the DDs have better speed and concealment ranges.

 

The addition of Radar has done nothing for her still existing, major issues.

It used to be a firehose when It was in beta, back when it still had teeth, I used it on my friends account before i ownded the game, but now it has no teeth. I was in my colorado and getting fired on by an Atlanta. I would say he got about 100 shells on me. I took less then 8000 damage and no fires. Then I one shotted him when i got two cits on him. There are about 7 to 10 people who can use the Atlanta well, and I have there names written down on a post it by my pc. Radar did nothing for the atlanta but give alot of players overconfidence.

Had my Atlanta detonated yesterday. Never happened before and I have had it since August 2015.

 

Detonations seem to be on the rise. FoOrced me to exchange the Armament Mod 1 to the one that reduces detonation chance by 70%. Not fun.

 

I only use detonation flags on high-tier (read expensive) DDs (T7-T10). I leave the lower DDs unprotected and use them as det flag farmers. I would not have expected Atlanta to be detonated so easily. Now I know better. As an aside, I got a torp detonation in Imp. Nikolai I, but those are still rare.

It doesn't help Atlanta that she has the same type of reputation as Pensacola:  Extremely vulnerable Cruisers prone to disastrous damage effects.

 

Just like Pensacola, when an Atlanta is spotted, it draws heavy fire because everyone is looking for that lucky 1-salvo that sinks her, which does happen.  People will drop whatever it is they're doing to get that salvo or two in and get that easy hit to rack up a lot of damage.

Yeah, so far my Atlanta is not fun to play. Heck, even my Pensicola is fun, even if it has no armor. at least it can fire back with out people going "Oh look a perfect double rainbow" (Atlanta stab )

This is my best and favorite ship. I loved it before the radar, and now it's better. AFT isn't worth it. You can't hit anything out there. The AA is just boss when a CV shows up. 

 

I just had a game where I singlehandedly one it by myself in the Atlanta, each corner I came around I'd just wreck whoever it was, DDs gone in 2 salvos, CAs with 8000 off per salvo (that AP does wonders up close) and BBs with 5000 off per salvo. I knocked every single class out. (I was top tier though). 

 

Some games it sucks though. You have to play risky, playing the islands and rushing the DDs while constantly watching for AP rounds your way. Sometimes you do great, sometimes it doesn't go as planned and it sucks. But your far better off playing aggresive vs passive, as the games where aggresive works out are just golden.

This Atlanta is my favourite ship, this add of radar is good idea to boost a result of bad player, other buff not help a bad player and Atlanta go in more OP with master's of Atlantosaurus Rex.

Atlanta take lot of buff this year : resistance buff of turret, new module, rework of captain skill's, supression of SA, buff of long-range AA, radar and new cruisers line.

 

I prefer play Atlanta, is better, because i have very agressive playstyle, and in FFA, this mate is very rendom, If a pressure a red DD in ranked, this other player push to cap, is not true in FFA.

I agree totally, plus the Fletcher a Gearing shred so their guns and those were used by the Atlanta's CAAA's And Miami Cl's but yet the Atlanta Guns are horrible. And to beat face you have to be close before they arc up. Still needs to change that Arc then you would have something, not saying CBT Atlanta, but so where in between there and now.
