Nikolai MM

Since I've been hearing some conflicting reports lately, does Nikolai now get preferential MM or not? The pre-release patch notes seemed to suggest she doesn't, but I see people claiming that she never sees T6 post patch, so I thought I'd ask.

Just double checked the game data and yes I can confirm the ImpNik now gets the same MM as all the other T4s (finally proof that WG will nerf Russian ships?)

Holy crap. Thanks. My only minor inconvenience with Nikolai previously was that she's ineffective in T6, especially on large maps. Now that she has preferential MM, it's not even funny how badly OP she is.

She has the same changed MM as all the other T4 ships so I dont think preferential is the right term now that they are all on the same field.

If you don't understand why Nik "only" seeing T3-4-5 isn't seen as "preferential", I'm not sure what I can say.

Pretty sure Arkansas hasn't seen T6 since a few months ago when all T3 and 4 BBs were given protected MM, with Nikolai as the only exception until now.

That's a buff, not a nerf. Doesn't see Cleveland anymore.

Words have meanings. Preferential is "of or involving preference or partiality; constituting a favor or privilege." I'm not saying the MM should have been changed for the Nikolai just saying that preferential to describe the MM is inaccurate as it is the same MM as the other ships of that tier.

My stealth firing Clemson already burns them to the waterline though.

 

Just clear a path for your DDs and let them delete the fantasy ship.

Actually Nicholai was a real ship. Laid down April 28 1915, launched October 18 1916.

But no T6 means no big fat juicy Fusos, New Mexicos, Warspites or Nurnbergs to feed damage off and the glorious XP & credits that comes with it

 

I guess on the plus side, no more Ryujos

The real Imperator Nikolai I from 1916 isn't what we have in game now though..

It's missing that raised bow deck and the first three turrets aren't facing forward.

Launched, yes. But it was actually never completed. The ship was never truly finished and the laid down version of it never had all the upgrades they planned for the ship. What we have in-game is what the Imperator Nikolai I would have been if it had been actually finished.

But to say pure fantasy, no Nicholai wasn't. Sure she isn't the fully upgraded beast she is, but she was a real ship.

Yeah, she's not a fantasy ship and the upgrades are not "fictional" upgrades since the plans for them existed. Now the performance of the ship is still questionably fictional, since we'll never know if those upgrades would have worked fine without needing more tuning or even huge adjustments that could possibly tone it down.

I won't argue that one bunny. Even I tend to think most of the performance of the Nicholai and good number of RU Cruisers are made up at best.

"Preferential MM" is a fixed term in the WG ecosystem, and these tend to not always follow strict dictionary definitions. It simply means "not seeing +2 tiers" and most everyone with some WG experience has a common understanding of it.

 

In this case you can justify the terminology by contemplating the fact that the entirety of T4 is treated preferentially (and therefore Nikolai is, too) relative to the tiers above it because T5+ can see up to two tiers above itself while T4 can't. By extension, Nikolai (just like other T4 ships) therefore has preferential MM. Makes sense?

I never said it was pure fantasy. You are the one who is doing that.

 

There is a lot of details about the ship that are indeed largly made up or whose deficiencies are compensated for by the game mechanics.
