Unfortunately, I died early because of a yolorushing Minekaze that I had to deal with. The good news, however, is that I can officially say that Lert killed me and I'm proud of it! Also, I got screenshots of the Dunkerque and Bayern. However, fair warning: I'm not certain if I can post screenshots of the two ships because of the NDA the supertesters have. If Lert or anyone other supertesters can get back to me on that, it would be much appreciated. If it's a yes, I'll post the screenshots. *Edit: Screenshots are a go! Here's a good look at the Bayern and the Dunkerque. They look pretty nice to me. If only the supertesters were able to share info on them, but I know they can't so I won't ask. We can't even say that, as that would be taken as an indication to the ship's quality and playstyle.

Cripes Marlene... I heard one supertester once say that he would literally say nothing, because it was almost impossible to say anything without breaking NDA. This was in response to a joke question. I think someone asked if the Bismarck was German or not, and he said "I can't comment because NDA."
39,481 [HINON] Lert Alpha Tester 27,858 posts 27,299 battles Report post #6 Posted July 31, 2016 It's the slippery slope principle, Dorja. The moment we're allowed to say anything, for example simple things like nationality, the question becomes 'what are some other things we can say' and the line becomes muddled. It's safer to simply not allow us to say anything other than 'it floats, it shoots, it burns, it sinks'. Keeping the line hard and simple makes it easier to remember and enforce.

Like, I like the historical hull, which is admittedly uglier than the armpit stains on my T-shirt after a long, hot day, but I like it anyway. It's weird. Several have life rafts, and many have various motor launchers, but not a one has a lifeboat.

Those are various different launches which would get used for different things. Honestly, I don't know the technical name for them (the different ones have different names). I don't really know what they used most of them for, other than getting people to and from the ship at anchor maybe? I do know that none of those are lifeboats, and in the event of abandoning ship, maybe if you were lucky, you might be able to get one or two into the water and float, but unlikely. They would almost certainly have been destroyed by whatever is making the ship sink. Plus, think of how many crew are on this battleship. Probably like 1500. How many can you cram into all those boats? A few hundred if you pack them in like sardines and get every boat away. Those boats take a long time to launch BTW. They wouldn't be provisioned either, so it would still really, really, really suck being in one. Edited August 1, 2016 by Captain_Dorja

I always thought they were multi-purpose for like hull inspections at sea or something and doubled as a lifeboat. But I'm not an expert, they could be dining halls for all I know. 2,367 [HINON] Captain_Dorja [HINON] Beta Testers 5,913 posts 5,645 battles Report post #17 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) As a general rule, warships don't carry lifeboats. For one thing, they take up so much space that there's no room on deck for anything else. They also aren't really useful for other tasks a lot of the time. You can't use them for things because they need to be standing by in case of an abandon ship scenario. If you look at some of the USN ships, they have rafts all over them. Hundreds of rafts everywhere. Those are just held down by straps. They stow in small places, they are easy to launch (undo straps and push into the water) and you can put hundreds of them in random places where they are on deck but out of the way, like on the sides and rear of a gun turret. They can also put a lot more than they really need, and hopefully if the ship goes down, enough survive the damage to hold the crew who survive to abandon ship. Life rafts also usually a pre-provisioned, so in emergencies, you just get into them, and whatever is supposed to be in there just already is in there somewhere (assuming it all works according to plan, which in an abandon ship scenario is pretty unlikely, but you do your best). But I'm not an expert, they could be dining halls for all I know. The smaller, less opulent ones are used for transfering crew from ship to shore to ship, like the one on the right. Also light cargo such as mail. The fancy ones are for officers of increasingly larger rank. Although they aren't ocean-going boats, you can use them at sea between ships, but the calmer the waters, the better
162 MagisterAurelius Members 695 posts 8,870 battles Report post #20 Posted August 1, 2016 The multitude of boats were useful when visiting ports that lacked adequate draught to try battleships up to a pier. Or when the captain wanted to make certain that only the crew could board the ship during shore leave periods. When they have to take a boat back to the ship it inhibits the chance for contraband goods or people to be brought aboard the ship.
