I have been really frustrated with the Kiev as its torps just suck badly. I mean come one its Tier 7 and its torps are worse then the Tier 5 premium. The Gremmy can out do the Kiev. I want to get a push to get the torps from the Gremyashy put on the Kiev so atleast it can preform at tier 7 level. I mean I can out do my Kiev with my Clemson and its tier 4.

I sold the Kiev when I got the Blyskawica. It's not that I thought the Kiev was a bad DD but I prefer the Blys for tier VII and it freed up a slot and some gave me the credits selling her. I may get her back some day.

If you are relying on torps in a Kiev (unless ambushing from close behind an island), you are playing it wrong.  Kiev should be played as the annoying mosquito, raining shell after shell down from 9-12km out, full speed and maneuvering.

^^ 100%

Yup, torps are highly situational.

Hang back no closer than 10k, and fire from afar while ducking and dodging.

Its the way I play the Kiev but man its not that great at it unless you have 100 charges of smoke and have someone spotting for you. I keep getting MMs with it that force me to have to cap and its not the destroyer to be doing that with. Capping is better left to Japanese destroyers.

But still there are tier 2 dds that have better torps and My question is why? When a tier 5 Russian DD gets 6 km torps I can understand the Grenvy not getting them but the Two tiers above it should get them.

What are you talking about?  The Kiev is the Beast of the Seas!  If you want torpedoes, go play a Fubuki or something.  The Kiev is a gunboat, specifically designed to utterly destroy IJN and USN DD's, a task at which it excels.  Torpedoes are for last-ditch self defense and MAYBE a surprise attack on an unsuspecting BB or something similar.

OK, watch this...while it is 8 months old, and the Kiev's hp has been nerfed since then, the gamestyle applies.  It is easier for you to watch this than type an essay on how to play the Kiev.

Asks for advice, tells advisors the advice is [edited]. Good luck making 4km torpedoes work.

Was not asking for advice, Was asking people to start pushing WG to put the 6 km torps of the Gremy onto the Kiev.

That video shows you exactly what the ship's strengths and weaknesses are and how to optimally play the Kiev.

You want torps and guns?  Buy a Blyskawica or a Sims.

You want to wreck enemy ships with guns, play the Kiev.

If you want a pseudo russian torp boat, then you won't get that until the tier 9 Udaloi, with 8km torps(and that's with a captain using CE). The kiev is an annoying HE spamming gunboat. If you want a pure torp boat, try the IJN line. For a mix of both, try the US DD line. It's a national flavor WG thing. If you really want a great experience, team up with someone else with a Kiev and work as a team. 2 Kievs working together can cause some serious havoc.

True. I ran into a pair of Kiev's recently and think juggling a chainsaw might be better.

A Kiev and a stealthier DD like a Sims, or even a Fubuki, might be even more fun. Get the sneaky DD to spot for Kiev. Makes offensive smoke even better.

Have you tried Kiev's AP? AP is amazing. Fire it at ANY ship showing broadside at ANY range. Aim low for cruisers and middle for BBs.

Kiev does not have torpedoes. Torpedoes do not exist. If you fire torpedoes from Kiev, you've screwed up and screwed up big time.

What you want are speed flags and premium speed boost, roaring around at 48kts. Prop Rose up on the bow and fire AP.

I like my Kiev. Doing around 60-70k damage per match minus the torps. Seldom using the torps and rely most heavily with guns.

I'd love to see some examples.  I'm not too shabby in the Kiev (and other DDs) and I make full use of everything the Kiev has to offer (smoke, guns, survivability, etc.).  I completely understand its role and play it as such and I enjoy this ship.  However, I usually manage 30k damage in a decent game and ~40k in what i would consider to be an awesome game (couple hundred hits, multiple fires, maybe a 1x torp hit...).  But 60-70k per match seems like an overstatement to me OR I actually just suck really bad in my Kiev.

EDIT: Reading comments above I just realized I need to try and start shooting AP...

Pairing a Kiev, or honestly any Russian DD with a more stealthy DD can definitely be a damage multiplier. I was in my Tashkent one game on the map North. My team spawned in the south and I escorted a IJN DD through C cap and D cap with no opposition. After that we went north up the east side to flank and we spotted a US cruiser. I opened up my guns on the cruiser from ~12k km dodging and weaving as he shot back at me and the IJN DD snuck in sending I imagine a couple volleys of torps into the cruiser while he was distracted trying to kill me with little success. Both of us were so amused with how easily it worked, and we weren't divisioned either, just happened to be working together. I didn't get a whole lot of damage as it didn't take long for the IJN DD to nuke him but I didn't mind really as any fast easy kill is a good one.

I am consistent 40-50k  kiev driver      you want to be just ahead of the fleet  and at 12KM+  away .    I would use AP where applicable, but  HE with DE lights fire all the time.  :D  you need aft/de though for best result.

I have AFT but not DE yet.  I always get out front of the fleet for spots/caps and shoot at long range. I get plenty of hits and set a decent number of fires but for some reason my average damage isn't approaching these levels yet.  I'll keep at it.  I really enjoy the Kiev.

I'm not the greatest Kiev driver, but definitely one of my favorite ships so far. Especially with AFT, I feel like it's a really easy ship to play: as everyone said, just sit back and spam from max range, and nobody wants to shoot at you. Set a fire, change target, set another fire, change target, and rinse and repeat. You can use AP on broadsides and some superstructures. You can charge and delete IJN DDs, but have to be more cautious about USN DDs. You don't need to smoke to shoot, just use it when you want to get a bit closer, or are at risk of getting focused. And if you're ever in a knife fight don't forget you have super fast torps, but otherwise they are indeed pretty useless.

I'm probably in the minority but I find the Kiev is one of the most boring ships to play. She lacks basically all the things that make for a good destroyer (stealth and torpedoes) but has what would otherwise be great things for a light cruiser.  She'll be out-spotted by basically any other destroyer in the game so she can't really sneak anywhere, and being spotted first puts you at risk of getting bombarded by enemy cruiser if they're at all paying attention, which makes contesting a cap insanely high risk many times. Her torpedo range  can't lay down that high alpha damage that can sink a major ship unless they basically trip over her, and they run out of steam so quickly you can't throw them at an enemy formation just to break up their movement like even the Sims's sea-mine grade torpedoes can.

Gun-wise though, she's the definition of death by a thousand cuts.  This is partly why I find her so boring, is that she needs to linger throughout the battle to lay on tons and tons of hits to accumulate any kind of reasonable damage.  Sure she this damage can add up, but if you have a game where one team folds super fast, or you end up in a position where you simply don't have line of sight on enemy ships your damage is going to suffer.  I'm probably bias since I enjoy the flexibility of USN destroyers a lot, and doesn't really do much a light cruiser can't do about as well as her.  It feels like she is living off the reputation of being overpowered back in the day. (both in terms of drawing people to play her and in terms of drawing people to try and sink her)

I've found that as a DD, most of the RU ones are terrible at it, and the Kiev is definitely no exception. Higher detection, bigger target, the works. Her torpedoes are terrible, but that's perfectly fine. I expect it. Not every DD is great at being a torpedo boat - it's just the way things are. I never rely on my torps unless I'm trying to scare a ship into giving me more delicious broadside or I find myself suicidally close. Moreover, I've found that the Kiev does a much better job at being an ultra-light cruiser with the bonus of speed and smoke. I'll shell the mess out of things at long-medium range and, when I know I can get away with it, I'll get closer, pop smoke and slowly circle around in it shelling BBs and slow cruisers.  I focus on being an HE-spamming annoyance and occasionally tearing up a cruiser with AP at close range, but I never focus on torpedoes unless I need a proper distraction. It might be best to forget that you have them as a tool until you get into a situation where you can really use them.

So the Kiev is a bad ship you say?

Please note that all of them have torpedo hits.
