Springheel Jack says "Hi"

First, a bit about me and my gaming background.  I started playing war games in elementary school.  The first two games I played were Blitzkrieg and Bismarck.  Table top map games with the cardboard counters that had the unit designations printed on them.  Remember those?  As time wore on and I became older the games became more and more complex.  The introduction of supply lines, resources, production, diplomacy, etc, etc, etc... all culminating in the two biggest games I have played to this day in terms of size and scope,  S.P.I.'s "War In Europe" and "War In The Pacific".  Long did my parents mourn the loss of our massive dining room table and parts of the floor as we re-fought the greatest military campaigns in modern history.

Along the way I branched out into other areas of gaming.  "Dungeons and Dragons" of course, and miniatures.  Tanks, ships and Star Trek mainly.  (Remember Lou Zocchi anyone?)  All were great fun and I joyfully and proudly confess to being a gaming nerd...I mean, "enthusiast".

Somewhere post-puberty I discovered girls and my attention shifted to other things.  Games went into the closet, shuttered away from the light of day and forgotten until my parents disposed of them at a yard sale.  I never collected comic books or baseball cards, but I think I know how it feels to return home and discover that your collection had been sold or given away.  Caesar, Alexander, Grant, Pope, Lee, Cornwallis, Napoleon, Patton and Charlemagne all gone forever along with their many predecessors and contemporaries.  Oh well, that's life.  I moved on.

Then along came computers.  I started out on my friends Atari playing the Sub sim "Silent Service".  Predecessor to "Silent Hunter", the latter still my favorite of all the variations of sub sims.  I found replications of board games in titles Like "Panzer General" and  an entire genre of games based on Asian history, ("Bandit Kings of Ancient China", etc...) along with a whole realm of strategy games, mostly ancient era, but fun never the less.

I then discovered MMORPG's and went down a fantasy game rabbit hole called "Everquest" from which I eventually emerged after more than a decade and a half.  I was done with it, finally.

Anyway, to avoid writing an actual novel I'll just say that I love gaming in pretty much all it's forms.  And, after a long and winding road...eh...I have landed on WOWS and I couldn't be happier.  Currently my highest tier ship is the Omaha and as I slowly grind my way to the Cleveland I'm branching out into Japanese and German Cruisers and destroyers as well.  Going from St. Louis to the Phoenix was a massive culture shock, (warning here to fellow newbs, stay with it, you will come to love the Phoenix), but once I made the adjustment the fun grew exponentially.

Anyway, if you see me in game say "hi".  later folks,

Springheel Jack

You played Star Fleet Battles? Or the really old version with the turn charts and ranging with marked string?

If so, coolness. From different posts I've seen there are a few of us old SFB players into WoWs now!

Both actually.  We started out with a set of typed out rules that a friend of mine picked up at a con from Mr. Zocchi himself along with his home phone number that we could call if there were any questions.  How cool is that?  Later on we played SFB mainly because that's what everyone else had.  Man I wish I still had that stuff.

Oh man, Blue and Grey, I haven't even thought about that game in ages. It was one of my favorites back in the day.
