How does the credit system work?

I've been playing for a couple weeks and I'm kinda hooked.  However, I'm having a real hard time understanding the credit system.  There's "Research Credits", "XP Credits", "Doubloons", and "Credits".  I have to keep checking back but somehow I magically acquire enough research credits to research a new ship or upgrade.  What's with the doubloons?  I'm just really confused how it works so I'm probably not using all my credits correctly.  I have about 4.25 million credits, about 900 XP, and 4 doubloons.  Can someone please educate me on how this all works?

Ship XP is used to research the next tier ship in line. Credits earned in battle to purchase the researched ship or module or upgrades. Doubloons you must buy from the premium shop for real money and are used for premium benefits that can not be purchased with credits.

Doubloons are real money, you use your credit card to by them, they can be used for upgrading your ship or buying other stuff

XP and credits are earned in battle and depending how well you did in game you are given XP and credits accordingly

They then can be used when you have enough to research a ship and possibly buy it using them

If you have a primium account you will be awarded much more XP and credits to use on getting another ship it makes that go faster

Credits and XP are earned in each battle. These are two separate things.

XP is used to unlock modules and ships.

Credits are used to repair / resupply ships after battle, and to buy upgrades and ships that you have unlocked with XP.

XP can only be used on the ship it's earned on.

When you reach a high enough account level, you'll get access to 'free XP'. This is XP that you can use on any ship. 5% of XP you earn in battle is added to your free XP.

When you have nothing left to research on a ship, your ship becomes 'elite' and any XP you earn on it is available to convert to free XP, using doubloons.

Doubloons are bought with real money. You can convert them to credits, but this is something most people would never do since the exchange rate is bad, you can earn credits easily by just playing the game and there are far better things to do with doubloons.

I salute a new player who asks a reasonable question, rather than going off on a diatribe about WG's game! :honoring:

So are XP unrelated to regular credits?

Yes XP is totally unrealated to regular credits. You get both XP and Credits at the end of a battle. You can only use xp on the ship that you used to research modules on that ship. Later on when you become a higher level you will unlock the use of FREE XP meaning you will get xp that you can use on ANY ship. Credits you can use for anything whether it be buying modules or upgrades or ships.
