I went on hiatus during the time where the german tree was added, what has been added/changed since then, and were they good or bad changes?

CVs have been further nerfed into complete unplayability, Russian cruisers have been added (and surprise surprise, they're some of the best ships tier for tier), Radar is available for USN and Russian cruisers tier 8 and above (with the tier 7 premium Indianapolis and the Atlanta being exceptions), the Texas, Indianapolis, Saipan, and Arizona have been added as premiums (They're all pretty good for their tier and ship class), German BBs aren't out yet and it's bringing the KMS fanboys out of the woodwork, people are mindlessly whining about detonations when they could just equip Juliet Charlie and stop complaining, another season of Ranked has come and gone, the ARP ships have arrived again, the Shimakaze's 20 km torp walls have been replaced with 8 km torp walls, the Furutaka is now a tier 5 clone of the Aoba, and that's all I can think of right now.

They added in-game reticle customizations, national voiceovers, some captains can now have unique voice packs (only ARP ships currently, expect more to come outside of ARP content), minimap customizations that show detection/secondary/AA ranges (Hold Alt, click gear by map), last known position of enemy ships on the minimap, circles on the water that show the boundaries of smokescreens...

 

Carriers have been nerfed heavily again and again

IJN destroyer line now ends at tier 8

Khabarovsk and Moskva are the best ships in the game at tier 10, Budyonny and Molotov in tier 6 are performing like tier 9s.

Everybody has situational awareness now and they gave 100 doubloons to respec your captains (mostly DDs)

Cyclone weather effect added to many maps at random intervals.

 

Game mode limits spotting range to 8k. Unless you radar.

 

Bastion game mode added to tier VIII-X. Modified domination with spotting and artillery bases that defend caps. (still only played it twice)

New game modes, including one where you bombard shore targets, but that is only for higher levels.  Another is the cooperative battles against the AI is a lot tougher.  They just added a lot more AI ships, so those matches are now 2v1 against you.

 

There are a lot more to the GUI.  Smoke screens have optional borders you can turn on so you can see the physical dimensions of the smoke overlay on the water.  The mini-map has additional info such as detection and weapon range circles (small icon above the mini-map to turn them on and off).  Also, probably lesser know is you can hold down control button and mouse over your ship type name in the lower left of your screen, and it will bring up a list of your ship's stats.

 

Gameplay there hasn't been a lot of changes.  Matchmaking might be the most significant.  Carriers (which others have noted above have been nerfed) are also hard locked to a max of only 2 per team, and they are required to be put against an equivalent tier enemy carrier.  Also, carriers are not put in games against a second pair of carriers that are much higher level than themselves.  They only see adjacent tier carrier pairs.  This means a game will either have 0, or 2, or 4 carriers, of equivalent tiers, with perhaps a single tier up or down spread, but again evenly matched.

 

All ships in Tiers 1 thru 4 now cannot be put in games two tiers away from themselves.   A Tier-3 battleship will only be in a game with tiers 2, 3, and 4.  No more puppy kicking tier-1's, or being put against tier-5's who kick your butt.

 

Also, as of last patch the nationalities of ships are taken into account in matchmaking so they are put evenly between teams.  I.E. a game with 4 American destroyers and 4 more IJN destroyers will try to evenly distribute so both teams will have 2 American and 2 IJN destoryers (or cruisers or battleships as well).

Skilled Captains dont count, they are statistical outliers and can make a row boat with a pellet gun work. At least according to this forum.

I don't think anyone said that. I mean, I have blue stats and people listen to me for some reason, and I'm incredibly stupid.

Except I do remember someone specifically telling me I dont count because of some pretty little purple numbers. So is the reason my opinion does not count or is that just excuse for the real reason?

You mean how you keep forgetting the context in which I made that claim which I have explained no less than 3 times now? just so you can be super petty about it?
