Which is the best tier VIII BB?

North Carolina has absolutely amazing AA and bow armor. She's less maneuverable than the Amagi or Tirpitz, but she's got the best frontal firepower. She sucks as a brawler, but you can just now-forwards-reverse your way to victory in most BB vs BB engagements.

Amagi used to be the definite best. She's got the most firepower, she's got the best gun arcs, she's also pretty damn well armored too. Unlike the Nagato, she isn't overmatched by 16" shells so she is pretty much invincible bow-on. Unfortunately, she has mediocre AA and frontal firepower.

Tirpitz is IMO, terrible. She's kinda fat and has crappy alpha damage. She's got terrible AA too. Her redeeming features are her fast RoF which catches people off-guard and torpedos which keep ships away from her. I guess it could be argued that her lack of a visible citadel is an advantage, but it doesn't stop her from eating buttloads of penn damage if she shows broadside.

IMO the Amagi is the best. Random battles are about opportunity and flexibility and the fast Amagi is perfect at doing pretty much anything. She can brawl (almost) as well as a Tirpitz, she can snipe like a North Cal and she feels 'comfortable' to me. She lacks any glaring weaknesses and is a faster, up gunned, up-armored sister of the already solid Nagato.

North Carolina comes in second because she's good at "sit back with fleet and snipe" and "push with fleet and brawl". What makes her second is that she's utterly incapable of dealing with enemies on her flanks. Both the Amagi and Tirpitz have good butt armor and butt arcs, but the North Carolina relies on teammates to protect her backdoor (and sides). If she's not alone, the North Carolina is a fantastic ship.

Tirpitz is... Something. Her playstyle is not as easy to grasp as the other ships because her 15"guns are kinda crappy, so she's got to keep them firing to get some real damage done. Her torps are nice, but only idiots and suiciding ships wander into them.

I've only used the North Carolina out of the 3. seen enemy CV players complement it's AA performance "I can't hit the NC it's AA are just shredding my planes!"

^This! I had groupies of friendly cruisers following me around and I had epic games because of them.

I rarely seen the three and I've never used them, but I use the Colorado. And I'm the most AGGRESSIVE brawler ever (AnA10Pilot, BB_60 and Rolkatsuki can confirm :P)

And I've learnt never to f*** with a Tirpitz.

Screw those torps...

I like both the Amagi and the Tirpitz about the same. Don't have a NC but I don't care for the US BB line honestly. I lean more towards Tirpitz, mostly because It's a premium but also because I actually like the performance of the guns. I never feel under gunned in it. Also the fact that I've torped a Yamato twice only makes me call it "Derpitz" even more. I do have great games in the Amagi as well it's ridiculously easy to pull 100k plus games with out even trying in it. Just don't get hit broadside. Amagi was the Pinical of the IJN BB line for me. Izumo is just sad and honestly I don't like Yamato as much as I thought I would. It just misses to much even with dispersion mod and then gets HE burned by cruisers. It does lolpen but I get to many overpens that it outweights the few stupid citadels I get.

Only one I've used so far is Tirpitz and she's pretty good if you know what you're doing with her.

Amagi averaged 10k more than the other two and had the highest winrate, last time I looked.

I'm going to have to vote for the Amagi.  She's a very consistent performer, very flexible and very accurate.  Once you factor her in her broadside weight, it's a no-contest.

Amagi has the speed and firepower to pull off just about anything you need from a tier 8 battleship, and enough armor when angled to still work.  It's unquestionably overpowered, still dealing more average damage per game than both tier 9 battleships and of the non-premium battleships it is second in win rate after Yamato.  It's one of my favorite ships in the game and looks cool as hell for bonus points.

Tirpitz is fine, North Carolina is fine.  Tier 8 is a great tier for battleships.

Amagi, hands down.  The global damage/winrate stats speak for themselves.  It's better than the Izumo at Tier 9.

I also think the Amagi gets a bad rap for having "no armor."  She sits very low in the water, and with even minimal angling she bounces a lot of incoming fire.  Like WoT, this game is not about on-paper armor thickness; it's about leveraging the troll pre-programmed Soviet angling code.

I wouldn't put too much faith in stats, not unless it supports my own firsthand experience. For example:

 Hiryu averages 47.7k damage and 53.6% winrate against Ranger's 38.3k damage and 47.4% winrate, even though Ranger's a f***ing beast and Hiryu's s***.

A bit of an extreme example, but it goes to show just how much a misunderstanding of a ship can affect server statistics.

I'm not good with Amagi, but being on the receiving end of her mighty main battery, I fear her far more than NC or Tirpitz.  All those 16" guns, firing at very nice shell arcs and one of the best high tier dispersions?  Very nasty business.  Angled, she will still troll you.

I'll say the Amagi is the easiest to play because that 214m max dispersion is significantly better than the NC and Tirpitz.

My favorite is the still the NC though.

My answer below, especially with the recent buffs.

However, I admit my Amagi & Tirpitz stats are not particularly good and I should be able to improve them significantly now I think.

I haven't played as any of those ships, but I'm definitely voting for NC because that's the one I fear the most by far when I have to play against them. It feels invincible unless you get a lucky shot through the bow, and they can angle at you so easily and take no damage.

Tirpitz takes damage easily even when angled, and Amagi just can't angle like NC and put all those gun up front.

NC is my baby.

She consistently performs well when I play her. I tend to be a ballsy battleship player. I'm the opposite of the snipe meta. I push when my team is too scared to. It sometimes works and it sometimes doesn't but NC works well with what I do. Same with Tirp but NCs shells don't need to grace of RNGesus every shot to mostly land a hit.

So I think NC. Plus i'm not scared of an Amagi. Don't know the last time I was scared of facing an Amagi.
