Why do we play games that P*** us off?

I find myself wondering this sometimes. For those of you who are just as chill as can be no matter what happens to you in a game, this thread isnt for you. But for those of us who genuinely get angry, throw mice, controllers, shout and what not at our computers or TVs (and people in game). Then this question pertains to you. From the outside looking in, I'd say we have Stockholm syndrome and we just enjoy the abuse or something. Maybe it's the notion of "The next game will be better" Or maybe somewhere inside we feel we're having more fun than we are being angry.

I know I get seriously peeved at this game sometimes. You wouldn't believe the things I say to and about people to my computer screen.

Because when the game doesn't p** us off, it's a ton of fun.

When the game starts p**'ng me off, I drop it and go do something else for a couple of hours.

Because people are naturally competitive, hence they are drawn to competitive games in order to sate their (insatiable) thirst for victory.

The feeling of being angry is more of unrestrainable anticipation of such a victory, which is why people keep on playing no matter how angry they get.

I don't really get why people get angry to such an extent at the game though. As long as it's a team game, you can't really 100% dictate the outcome of the game. When I start to feel that it's getting a bit repetitive, I just go and do my readings and use that as motivation to get work done.

Personally, I play a little less WOWS now because I realized it's devolved into a stat-bragging program where all you do is farm damage and display it in a signature, which in turn is derived from the frustration and pain of other players who you sunk to get that damage in the first place. It's not really fun playing solo because chat is generally silent and you just go and do your own thing in the game, which reduces the satisfaction I garner from the game. That's why I just spend my time amusing myself with montage videos from atsf and another poster who popped up in here, Arlios.

Because if it p*sses a person off, it feels a million times better when you succeed.

Don't take my word for it.

Best answer.

Because you have a tonne of garbage games, and then one where you do really well, and want to keep playing.

Those are the ones where I wish replay was a standard function, and not something I needed to screw with the programming of my game client to get.

I get so stupidly angry I had to tack a sign over my computer to remind me in my rage to just STFU and play the game...

'If you're not

going to say

something

useful or

nice in chat;

then say

NOTHING

at all.'

Well I personally think there are a couple reasons:

1. We enjoy said games when they are not making us mad.

2. You can't exactly get mad at something you don't invest your feelings in. If you get mad at something it's because you care enough about it to do so. If you're mad at a game it's because you like it enough to do so in the first place.

I went through a faze where I was a serious grinder. I slammed a few things, and kicked a few chairs. I took a step back, and made new goals. Now I'm having fun at the tiers I'm at. I've even gone down a few, and re-bought a few ships. Yeah it sucks when you get stuck on a team with a bunch of po ta toes but I've found my cure in doing something crazy, YOLOing at camping BBs for example.

Hope that helps man, hang in there!

If you drive a motor vehicle, you will have seen road rage, some people just turn into road rage idiots when they drive

And some people turn into rage gamers when they play

Yeah, at least I've managed not to be so angry I Rage Quit... Wanted to do it a few times though, some more so than others...

'Welcome to your game Mister Marblehead! The one where the lowest tier out of all the 23 other ships is Tier-6, and the majority of both teams are using Tier-7 ships!'

Though I think I actually did pretty good in that game... cowered in the back, 'Please; you go first; No, I insist!'  and spammed HE at things like it was going out of style...

I play less WoWs now, and actually shopping for a new game, because its become f-ck-ng boring.  Its the same thing, again and again with no end game, little variety, same old freaking bad maps, new maps that are just a different version of old freaking bad maps.  The introduction of new content is too slow, introducing content that you didn't ask for, introducing content that are modified into ways that are not fun and more frustrating.  Not enough new ships, not enough gaming modes.  Same old, same old.

I still have great hope for the devs, I have great admiration for them in fact.  But the game is just well stale.  Until the next tree line that is.  Then it becomes momentarily exciting, but after a while, gets boring again.

That was my issue with World of Tanks (And continues to be so)

Endless grind grind grind grind, get to Tier 10. Hooray. I look at the next line, remember how much time it took of my life and blowing off the outdoors to grind the current line. Let out a frustrated sigh, quit for a while. WoWP, WoWs and WoT are good games when you're braindead from work (or whatever else that makes your brain dead) and you just want a game where you through slugs at the enemy until they die or until you die. Do this for a few hours, turn it off, go to bed. Other than that, you have a huge point.

I'm still in that phase, and I'm hanging in there. The worst I've done raging at any video game was I threw my Xbox360 controller out of the window, which landed in my coy pond outside (That I didnt expect, that was a hell of a throw). I've also punched my chair a few times and screamed at my computer monitor like it's the cause of all of my agony. Of course, now I have a system:  If I lose 3 games in a row, I quit. I'm done for the day. I've long since upgraded to more expensive gear, bought a new house, so on and so forth. So in my angry temper tantrums, if I break my TV or my computer. No more Internets for me.

Usually when WoWs or WoT infuriates me, I play Happy Wheels. Stress:= Banished instantly, like most of the teams I get put on
