Up the Tiers, or happy to be here?

Yeah, I know more philosophy crap from Davos...bear with me...

 

When I first started this game, I wanted the best toys NOW!  I watched all the videos of people one shotting things with a Montana, and I was gonna kill everything that got in the way of me getting her. I got pretty competitive, then I got frustrated at my lack of ship-fu. This lead to mouse slammings, cussing to myself, and yes some "salty" chat.

 

I didn't like that guy. So I fired him.

 

Yeah, I want to win, but I really don't even think about the higher Tiers anymore. I couldn't tell you how close I am to a Monty. I'm happy to knock around the low to mid tiers and have fun.

 

My Warspite has been collecting dust. Not that anything is wrong with her, it is just that I want to be a complete player, and I need to get better at CAs at any level. That and in a BB I feel like I need to carry the team, even though I know I can't always. Taking on half the reds in never a good idea, even if your secondaries set half of them on fire. So if I do something crazy in my Kirov eg. charging a Warspite, and I get hammered I don't feel like I've let the team down as much. Not that I like getting sunk, but it is still at the end of the day, a game. And I'm cool with that.

 

My point I'm afraid is a question with no right or wrong answer: What is the most fun ship you have played and why? Tree or Premium, its all good.

Budy is hands down my favorite ship now, the velocity/arcs are awesome and the AP is deadly. Usually does well even when up tiered.

My favorite atm is either Budyonny or Arizona. Awiggin already explained Budyonny, and I also like Arizona because it is a New Mexico, but better

Since the patch, love taking the Atlanta out over and over.  Such a DD killer with the radar.  Enjoyed it before, but now...

Nah l play what l like and keep a few faves and prems in tiers 2 to 7 currently.

I play for fun but also strive to improve and learn and am in absolutely zero hurry to go up tiers till l feel like it or just happen to progress there.

Right now the sweet spot for me is T-3 to 6 Cl play.

Also dip into DD's a bit.

Not to good at BB and not crazy about them or cv's.

 

Its about fun do what makes you happy in WOWS.

Kamikaze R, absolutely. Ton of fun. Benson, like driving a machine gun. The first ARP Kongo was sweet too...

Clemson is one of my favorites. I also like the Mogami with the 155mm, even though it's not a "good" ship. It's just fun being able to fire 15 shells every salvo.

CA - I like the Furutaka and Aoba, sleek, fast and deadly.

BB - The South Carolina is more fun than a barrel full of monkeys. It is a wrecking ball in Tier III.

DD - The Isokaze is a blast.

I like my icky and the more capt. skills the better she gets. Tier 2-6 so far but I don't have higher yet ...but who cares having fun enough to spend a little cash!  Thinking about the Texas!

I play mostly Tiers V-VII. DDs the most, but I've been playing and getting better with BBs lately. 

 

Favorite ship?  Minekaze. With 16 point captain now so 5.4 km detection range. She can scout, take caps, stop a push dead in its tracks, and send ships to the bottom. Figuring out the best approach angle, torp spread to anticipate enemy course changes, and the optimal release point so you stay just outside detection range is challenging and fun. 

 

That said, I enjoy USN DDs a lot too. Like the Minekazem they seem able to affect the outcome of the battle. If I had to pick just one it would be the Sims. The VMF DDs are a blast too. Unfortunately, the Gnevny seems to be only one i do better than server averages. 

 

Most recently, I acquired Warspite. My overall stats aren't great, but I've had some fantastic battles playing her.

I have over 40 ships and all but a few are fun.

 

Let's look at a turn around for You.

 

There are 3 kinds of ships:

1) THAT ship you HAVE to grind through, you hate it. (Colorado, Gnevney, ognivoy) despite having occasional great games, they are overall not fun to YOU.

Sell them when done and don't look back.

 

2) THOSE ships you just click with. They are extremely fun to play, (regardless of match outcome) and you will keep no matter what.

 

3) THOSE Premium ships you bought and are stuck with (Sims I'm looking at you).

....

So my advice is to keep those ships you enjoy (umikazi) you are very good at (Aoba) or both.

Notice tier doesn't matter, enjoyment does.

Now for another example:

I've seen great videos of higher tier7+ of Russian DD'S and just had to get there. OMG, the struggle was real. I free exp'd most of tier 4. Almost gave up on tier 5. Almost threw mouse through monitor 10k into tier 6.

Free exp'd last 10k for final hull. THEN I got AFT unlocked, STEALTH FIRE...OMG yes ship was almost fun...joy getting 2 torp kills..Then tier 7....WAS WORTH the pain. 

....

So figure out what your end goal is. 

For me US tier 9 BB and CA looks like my end point. 

Russian tier 10, IJN tier 10, except CV. Germany's tier 10 looks like end game.

US DD'S tier 10, CV slowly learning tier4.

....

So my favorite ships so far:

Clemson, Mahan, phoenix, New Orleans Arkansas Beta, Texas, Arizona, Atlanta, IJN DD'S tier 2, 3, 4 and 8, fujin, Kamikaze R, Aoba, myoko, Atago, Yubari Fuso, latest 2 ARP tier 5 ships, kongo, tier 4 premium BB, Nagato, Mikassa..

German tiers 5,6 and 7 cruisers, warspite, Bliss, Russians, Svetlana, kirov, Buddy, MOLOTOV, MIKAHL, Gremmy, Murmansk. 

Can't pick just 1.

Answers all over the place, as I thought. Thanks! I'm starting to have fun in my Kirov...but I just don't think its for me. I know others do great in her, so not bashing her, just saying... I overall think DDs are the most fun simply for the crazy stuff you can pull off in one. My Clemson is a gas! Like I said, I think I take my BBs too seriously. The Dunkerque is a sexy beast, and I know I could run her great....but I just can't camp. I would use her to push, and get ganged up on. I'm tempted to get an Atlanta of all things, since you can be such a pain in the rear with one. Yeah, a Molotv would be better to grind with....but fun? Not sure...

Tier 9 USN DD isn't enough for me... I thought it might be... but no, I must own the Gearing, I shall own the gearing one day. She will probably be my first Tier X ship. And oh by the way.. .Fubuki is quite the fun ride too. :-)

I'm right about where I want to be.  My only "grinder" that I'm particularly interested in levelling up is Nurnburg- which also happens to be a favorite PLAYING ship, too.  Yay me!

 

 Not interested in the high tier meta- at all.  Thus, tier 7 (or 8 with the premiums I have) is about as high as I want to go.  No padding some Yamato player's stats for me. 

 

  I mostly play my Elite ships or premiums, to work on captains or grind credits.  Or, just because I like them.

The top tier ships I like to play are:

Colorado- not all that interested in tier 8 or the North Carolina, to be honest- so I'm happy just playing this and don't worry about advancing.  Me Likey!

Nurnburg- I DO want to get to the Yorck, and try out a German Heavy cruiser!  I would also kind of like to get to Hipper, roon and Hindy, too.

 

Kirov.  Get's played less atm, but I eventually want Buddy- just to see what all the shouting is about, lol.

 

Pepsi.  I love the guns, and I love the balanced layout of them.  Same firepower coming and going.  I'm determined to get decent at playing it, because Those guns!   The stupid spotting distance of the ship is ridiculous, though.  I'm also not particularly interested in going any higher up this line.

 

Aoba.  It was a love at first play!  Now it's in temporary mothballs, while I work on other things.   Lol- the same meta change that made Nurn so much fun to play, also made this and 'Taco miserable for me.  Guess that's just the breaks.  ( current co-op meta favors cruisers that can nuke from range and kite effectively- which Koney and Nurn both excel at, and Taco and Aoba really don't.  )  I do eventually want the Myoko.

 

Kongo.  Nothing wrong with the ship, I'm just liking the USN line way more.  I've had this a long time, and only have 15 or so games in it.  Not even close to finishing it, either.  I like it, I just don't play it much. 

 

  My next ambition is to try out any new lines as they come out- as well as interesting looking premiums.  I have 60 ships right now, so I have plenty to play!   Start at the bottom, and work my way up the tree is my plan.  No free xping through ships to get to the high tiers for me.

 

  I'm actually of two minds on the upcoming German BB's.  I'm looking forward to a brand new line to try- variety makes the world go round, right?  And it's about time for one to appear.  I also love playing BB's.  However, I'm EXTREMELY concerned about WG's decision to give most or all of them torps.   BB's should not have torps!  Tirpitz was supposed to be the only one...

I'm not sure about the rest of the German BB line having torps. At least till tier 6 or so. Everybody seems to say that the USN CA line is the weakest of the bunch. But I don't have much luck with CAs anyway. I'm REALLY tempted to get a Aboa...such a good looking and fierce ship. I would be over my head and I know it, but I would have fun. ..and this stuff goes round and round in my head....

It's my ultimate fun ship right now. It's so satisfying to get thrown into tier V games...and then cit the crap out of Omahas and Furutakas

#2 Farragut/Benson

They are what got me deeper into World of Warships. When it comes down to it. I always fall back on USN destroyers.
