Escort mission?

It might be interesting to have a basic mission added to the mix. It could be cool to have an escort mission with four or five bot transports passing through, team "A" must protect the convoy, team "B" must sink them all. Pretty basic. Thoughts?

So battleships will set at Max Range shooting the transports driving in straight lines.

Then the Defending team will set at max range on other side of escort ships shooting back, while they yell at Cruisers to Defend the transports!  while DD's knife fight in the middle, and the winner from that sends waves of torps at the bot AI ships driving along.

I could see that actually working, if the transports are controlled by the AI like in Co-op battles, but it will need a lot of fine tuning.

i feel the bots need dynamic routes (every match the bots take a slightly or drastically differing path to prevent the attacking team from just camping at certain choke points on the map) but other than that i feel that is a fairly good idea

Don't be surprised if this shows up in co-op at some point. They wanted it in alpha but does not work to well in Randoms

By transports I mean supply ships, sorry for any confusion. It probably will need to be set at just DDs and light Cruisers on the largest map. Players on the defense would be dropped in a logical protective stance around the bot supply ships, I see the arrangement as follows: Weather is constantly stormy, low visibility, eight supply ships would be heading east to west on the lower portion of the map, a string of islands running horizontally through the middle of the map (not too many, placed using a randomizer each time so the map does not get boring), the offensive ships start in the north-center. For the defense to win, at least one supply ship would have to make it to the other side, going through the west barrier at the edge of the map. Offense would have to destroy all supply ships. Each supply ship would have a single 4" gun at the front, like the Liberty Ships, and would fire with good accuracy. The AI on supply ships would move to avoid torps and sustained shell fire, but would have an invisible tether to the group, so it does not wander off. 

 

A variation of this idea could be a crippled Yamato being escorted to Kure, protected by V-VI cruisers and DDs. Attacked by V-VI DDs, light cruisers and a few V-VI BBs.
