WoWS: Changes between 0.5.9.0 PT vs 0.5.9.0 Live

From Redditor iku_19

Remember! These are datamined values!

Parameters

  • Nikolay now has pref MM (T4-5 instead of T4-6)
  • Saipan now has full MM (T7-9 instead of T7-8)

Localization

  • Fixing more typos

from TAP and iku_19

and not to mention that Saipan always had full MM

Nikolai would get preferential MM by default anyways. even if it could see up to tier 6, now no other tier 4 can. and with the balancing changes, that means it would not get dragged up to tier 6 as the only other tier 4 that would balance it out would be another Nikolai in the queue at the same time.

and Saipan can only get into matches with other tier 7 CVs. and no tier 7 CV will get into the same match as a tier 9 CV with the new 1 CV cap on tier 8, 9, and 10.

neither of these changes carry weight.

Except that Nikolay is already over performing enough. It was the ONLY tier 4 Battleship that went to tier 6 game, because it's too OP in it's tier. It's statistics is clear evidence. No other tier 4 BBs went to tier 6 game because they only suffer.

Or maybe they didn't do enough pre-release testing.

You'd think that WG would have learned their lesson by now with regard to OP premium ships.  Test the heck out of them.  And it's better to release an underpowered premium ship than an overpowered premium ship.  Trying to nerf the OP one gets them into tons of hot water, whereas no one would complain if they buffed the UP one until it seemed reasonably balanced.

So equal treatment is seen as a bias? Interesting. Yes the Nik is OP, but giving everyone the same of something isn't bias unfortunately.

Now, if they made it so the Nik got to see Tier 3-4-5 and was the only BB set up like that I'd agree it's bias, but that isn't the case here.

MM does not have to be constant, they did this intentionally so that this ship is even more OP. They want it this way.

Really think it is just accidents that Soviet machines massively dominate in their games? At what point, how many times the exact thing happens, do people understand it is not dozens and dozens of accidents? They said the Scharnhorst for instance was doing so well..... look how quick they made sure we knew that and they would adjust. Notice that never happens with Soviet stuff? "Oh, we didn't know it was hands down the best, guess we didn't test it enough, oh well, our bad. Here ya go!" is the Soviet model.

My goodness I cannot wait for the Soviet BB line. Epic.

I think that the point was that the Nik is so OP that it's unfair (or almost unfair) to all other tier 4 BBs (and ships in general) for the Nik to have the same MM as they get.  I'm not in a good position to argue whether or not this is true, since I've never played the Nik.

To me, looking at this from afar, it seems to me that the Nik is either an example of supposed Russian bias OR an example of very poor pre-release testing.

But you have to remember the original purpose of preferential MM.

It's there to prevent ships/vehicle that is already not good at it's own tier such as Karlsruhe or B1 from WoT to suffer from regular +2 MM because they cannot do anything already even at it's own tier.

But Nikolay is not the case, infact just the opposite.

Makes you wonder why they don't just keep the ship the same and bump it up a tier....

Because players would see that as a nerf and they really try to avoid nerfing premiums after release.

I do not really see this as being a big issue, yes nik is a really good ship but its only OP in the right captains hands, I went against 2 one game in mine and they just sailed broadside and I had my team focus them and they where toasted, and there really are not that many of them out there in games, I have 1 but maybe play 1/2 dozen games in it a week and probably the other nik captains do about the same, it like the t59 in wot, it was a mistake and everyone still wants and talks about it years after it was last sold and it will be the same with the nik, as more player join it will become even more scarce to see it in battle

This thread seems familiar for some reason....

You know how people are....In our current society you need a descriptive title to suck them in. You weren't quite as specific...:)

We  will just have to wait and see. I can see WG returning the Nikoli to a +2-2 in the future.

Now, if only the Nikolai and Beta couldn't see Carriers either. I'd be so happy.
